Real-Time Wireless Media on Palm OS Devices
OnVerge Labs has introduced its flagship application, InfiniFile for the Palm OS Platform. The patent-pending software integrates with the Palm operating system and provides access to virtually unlimited audio, video, programs and data stored on a PC.
To other Palm applications running on the handheld or smartphone, InfiniFile simply looks like an additional multi-gigabyte memory card. Thousands of existing Palm OS applications already work with InfiniFile. The amount of storage and the size of files accessible on the device are limited only by the available space on the server PC. Rather than having to download to the handheld device, InfiniFile streams data in real-time from the server PC.
End-users can use popular media player software with InfiniFile enabled Palm Powered devices to access any file from an audio or video library on a server PC instantly. A user can now simply "play" any song or video from their server PC on their handheld or smartphone in real time, without the need for downloads or synchronizing. Games, programs and databases can all be stored on the network preserving valuable and limited memory on the device.
In the enterprise, InfiniFile is first to provide a means of sharing spreadsheets, documents, presentations and databases between multiple users with the familiar personal organization, business productivity, ERP and enterprise Palm OS applications used today.
"Other than the obvious consumer applications, we see InfiniFile as a platform to further enhance the growing capabilities of handheld and smartphone devices," said Ali Husain, President and CEO of OnVerge Labs. "We look forward to working with the creative Palm developer community in exploring novel distributed applications such as wireless gaming, industrial, medical and enterprise solutions."
InfiniFile for Palm OS® Platform retails for $39.95 and is available for purchase from the OnVerge Labs, A free 14-day trial version is available for download. The server program, InfiniServer, is available free to install on any number of PCs at home or in the office. 10% of sales proceeds for the first 60 days of release will be donated to Tsunami relief and reconstruction efforts.

"Real time" wireless access to files on a PC from a PDA was demo'ed over ten years ago with the early Xerox PARC PDAs and even with a demo running on the first year of the Newton.
Bottom line. You have a good product but there is way too much prior art to try to claim a patent here.

You are overlooking how far the wireless connection may be.
* Bluetooth to PC (from ~30 meters away).
* WiFi to PC (from ~100 meters away).
* WiFi to local area network to PC (from anywhere in the company/campus).
* WiFi to Internet to local area network to PC (from any WiFi hotspot).
* Bluetooth to cell phone to Internet to local area network to PC (from anywhere you have digital cell service).
Will it work with a treo 650 i.e. no WiFi/BT to server pc?

*sigh* Here I go again...
Is there a Mac version?
RE: *sigh* Here I go again...
Clarity, man!
Won't work on OS6 IMHO
actually I was expecting something like this to happen for quite some time now. The PalmOs VFS architecture always allowed third parties to add a VFS slot driver and a File System library-too bad that this is said to be missing in OS6.
BTW, when does somethzing like this come out that supports regular FTP, WEBDAV and Windows SMB shares...

"Sounds like they sent out the press release a wee bit too early."
Maybe they should make a Springboard version of this.

Press release: CUPERTINO, California — February 11, 2005 — Apple® announced today that Steve Jobs will begin selling his own feces to Apple Cultists beginning March 1. Apple's new iPoo™ lineup is expected to easily surpass the iPod shuffle as the company's most popular product. Yes, Apple Cultists can already easily create their own iPoo™, but feces didn't seem cool until Jobs told them it was cool. Remember, kids: the ONLY cool feces is Jobs' highly individualistic, rebellious iPoo™ (coming soon in six different colors/flavors, including the red [hematochezia] and black [melena] U2 GI bleed model)

RE: Is that a similar software can do exactly the same thing
It seems to have one major problem though in that it detects and connects fine to my laptop & it's shares. The card shows up fine but the T3 is not able to read the card.
It just asks 'Do you want to format the card' and actually never mounts it.
It shows up in Card Info as a network storage with an unknown size and format.
RE: Is that a similar software can do exactly the same thing ?
Just wondering if you ever figured out what was causing wifigenie to want to format the folder. I have the same problem I've sent numerous emails to Wifigenie support, at first they seemed to want to help then they quit answering all together. finally they offered my money back or asked that I wait two weeks. They stated that they were having problems with the small packet size and was working on it. Anyway, I use Explorer and really want for this to work. I wasnt sure if it was my setup or WiFiGenie.
TIA
