According to Gartner, T-Mobile's branded units were in the top 5 sellers recently. So I can't imagine that they're not selling, unless all those units are somehow going to the US. It would be so nice if the various market analyst companies could simply get on one page with regard to definitions and methodology. As it stands, you need a market analyst to tell you what the market analysts are saying. RE: Its odd no WM carrier devices on list
Surur, O2, T-Mobile, Orange and the rest are in the "Others" which constitue close to a million devices.. Qtek, Orange, T-Mobile, O2, iMate are all selling HTC design - which make HTC the biggest manufacturer in EMEA right after Nokia... Moshe RE: Its odd no WM carrier devices on list
In theory yes, but it also means no carrier individually sold more than 130 000 units in 3 months. Thats not very good performance when one thinks about how large the market for each of these carriers individually are. Surur RE: Its odd no WM carrier devices on list
"Its rather odd that Qtek (which is just a HTC WM phone distributor) makes this list, while neither Vodafone, O2, Orange or T-mobile appear to have sold enough devices to make it." Isn't Qtek part of HTC? "The Qtek brand is owned by HTC corp, Taiwan" http://www.qtek.nu/europe/home.aspx Perhaps all the HTC devices are lumped together by Canalys in the Qtek category. Just a thought. RE: Its odd no WM carrier devices on list
Possibly, but that would be an error, as there are other major distributors of devices to the end users, specifically Imate, who are in direct competition with qtek and who would prefer to be counted seperately. Surur RE: Its odd no WM carrier devices on listSeldomVisitor @ 5/4/2006 10:12:44 AM #
> ...Perhaps all the HTC devices are lumped together by > Canalys in the Qtek category. Just a thought... Thus the TREO/Z22/TX is lumped with QTek? [actually, I'm not "sure" about those latter two...] RE: Its odd no WM carrier devices on list
"In theory yes, but it also means no carrier individually sold more than 130 000 units in 3 months. Thats not very good performance when one thinks about how large the market for each of these carriers individually are." Would that really be so disappointing? Palm's Treo 700w probably didn't sell much more than 150-200K units in it's launch quarter with Verizon Wireless, and that has been considered a pretty successful launch with a huge US carrier (50M total subscribers). The non-symbian smartphone market is just getting started (and will probably never really achieve a mass market). RE: Its odd no WM carrier devices on list
The difference is that this is in Europe and Elsewhere, where WM carrier devices are much more established. If you look here, you will see all T-Mobile's carrier-branded devices are Win Mob. Its surprising its not selling any better. Maybe next quarter. Surur

Its rather odd that Qtek (which is just a HTC WM phone distributor) makes this list, while neither Vodafone, O2, Orange or T-mobile appear to have sold enough devices to make it.
Does this mean PPCPhones are still very much hobbyist devices bought independently, vs devices bought via the local cellphone store?
Surur
They said I only argued for the sake of arguing, but after an hour I convinced them they were wrong...
