It looks like they left out PikeSoft-home of one of the greatest prognosticators in the Kingdom.

Maybe they're not too happy with someone preannouncing their plans a year in advance?

As of a couple minutes ago, PALM says...

...the 700p update will occur...maybe...the week of May 28th.

On their blog.

I still remain highly dismayed at this stage of the game. Heck, I had pretty much given up hope several months ago that this update would ever be released.

By the time the 28th rolls around, the 700p will be EOL'd and superseded by the newer, sleeker & (likely) more affordable 755p. Otherwise I just expect the 755p to be a pre-patched, antenna-less version of the 700p but with a bit more bundled software onboard and a miniSD slot.

Still, I'm glad to see this is a proper ROM update and not a RAM-hogging update or a collection of small patches. I'll be especially interested to see if VersaMail or Blazer are updated (I doubt it) as both apps still have some lingering bugs (especially VM).

I think this news probably bodes well for the 755p to be a fine device (assuming the price is reasonable--like <$300 w/ contract). Shame about that miniSD, though!

Well...that WAS the plan according to a single datapoint - a Sprint list of phones "coming soon" dating back months, I believe - that has turned into rampant rumor.

We do not know what the CURRENT plan is, however.

Plans (obviously) change.

SV:

No, that rumor from a few months ago was in fact reinforced with newly-leaked information that I reported at PIC last week. See here:

http://palminfocenter.com/news/9350/possible-treo-755-sprint-release-date-leaked/

Sprint actually pushed the EOL date of the 700p back by ~2 weeks. I would now expect it to be pushed back another 2 weeks to accomodate yesterday's news of the 700p ROM update.

Either way, I expect Sprint to EOL the 700p long before Verizon or Alltel or any of the other smaller regional CDMA carriers.

Uh...like I said?

A single purported sheet of Sprint paper is the driver behind ALL the release-date rumors of the 755P as well as the EOLing of the 700P.
