Posted By: Ed on Friday, September 01, 2000 4:51:02 PM

Firepad Inc. has demonstrated to industry analysts the world's first high-speed streaming video technology for the Palm. FireViewer 5, which will be released later this year, is capable of displaying full-screen video data on a Palm at up to 25 frames per second. It is part of a client/server solution also capable of displaying hypertext and large graphics in a group of proprietary formats.

 youve got to be kidding....

Well, I checked the ShockWave demo of this on the link listed in the article. However after watching it I am NOT impressed. Too slow. Too Choppy. While this may be really cool on future Palms, current Palm Vx, IIIc technology frankly cannt handle it. So.. untill Palm starts using StrongARM processors or something similar, forget it.

What you were watching was a demo created for the site. The choppienss you witnessed was your system downloading the animation. Try watching it through once and then hit the "Reload" icon at the top of your screen.

 Why I like Palm best...

I'm glad that a third party software company is creating this sort of application for Palm rather than Palm trying to stuff it into their next unit like Pocket PCs try to do.

I personally think handhelds showing video is kind of pointless. But, if someone wants it they should be able to get it w/o the rest of us carrying the cost.
That's what makes the Palm such a strong platform. They keep it simple and allow the users to decide which applications suit them.
