Palm Ceases Production on Palm V

Posted By: Ed on Thursday, September 14, 2000 9:31:28 AM

According to SV.com, Palm Inc. has confirmed that they are no longer making the Palm V and haven't since the beginning of September. They cited the V's limited 2 MB of memory as the reason.

Though the Palm V still appears on the Palm Store, it is listed as backordered. The Palm V was originally released in February of 1999 and has been replaced by the Palm Vx, which offers 8 MB of memory. The V sold for $329, while the Vx goes for $399 and comes in 3 different colors.

Could this be a signal of the rumored Palm Vxc Color model finally at our doorstep?

 I raise my glass...

(currently of iced tea) to the Palm V. It's served me well, and it probably will bring a tear to my eye to see it leave...

Well, no, since I, too, am looking for either a Palm V w/ wireless access or Palm Vc. That would be sweet.

(actually of coffe) ...I agree, I've been using PalmV for more than 1 year and I'm pretty satisfied
even if now I own a Vx with more Mb it didn't changed my life. So my next PDA will be
screen colored, Sony(TM) sticked, wireless connected (GSM!!), sound enhanced, PalmV's weighted
(possibly), <800$ priced, ...and I don't think I'm asking too much.

I agree with both of you. I'm on my thrid Palm and am praying for something new in the next few short months. I even bought an iPaq recently, but had to return two of them b/c of problems. The Sony Clie in color or a PVx in color with a few options would be the next logical step. If they bypass that in favor of more m100's I'll be really disappointed. The technology is out there and clearly we are not asking for much.

 Vxc?

A color V would be nice but a color V unit would kill IIIc sales...

that's true, but IIIc's are big 'n' nasty (compared to the V series). It's about time they get rid of that thing. I'm waiting for the palm that can read your mind and displays all your stuff on a contact lens so we wont have to use keyboards and styli anymore. They already have an input device that reads brain waves to make your mouse move around the screen and click and stuff...

Some guy I know of is even developing microphones that can transmit from a dragonfly.

The Sony Clie-c is the color Vx - PLUS a mem stik slot. Even if Palm gets a Vxc to mkt. now, it's probably too late (unless it has a SD slot).
