CitiKey: no more?

We've all seen a flounder of city based service guides available on the Palm Computing Platform - and CitiKey was one of the first available. In spite of the great idea and being around since 1998, the company is no-more as of today (22nd November, 2000) - as was publically announed here.

CitiKey had great potential - which is why I began engineering the first Palm version of the software (developing a proof of concept). CitiKey received $11.5 million dollars (US) in venture capital and received a number of awards in Sweden and Europe.

I wish those employee's now left without a job (yet, under the safety net of the Swedish govt) the best of luck in the future, as many are my personal friends. Its amazing how a company can take a great idea and throw it in the bin - however, it was just a matter of time.

it was a great concept - and to be honest, i wrote it for myself. part of the deal was for me to move to Stockholm, and i knew nothing about the city. developing the product from the ground up, made me understand the city in much more detail. i was more interested in finding my way around, thats why the map was implemented first :)) i have my own special version now - that does exactly what i need (when i need it). but like i said, its a shame to see such a good thing go to waste.

if you are interested in more "english" news on the bankrupcy and what really happened.. check out the following link:

I've been using Citikey London for quite some time now, since moving to London. The attention to detail, the up-to-date information, maps and everything were all just brilliant. I'm really sorry to see the company go bust. Hopefully someone, somewhere will keep the product alive...
