Expected Deluge of New Software Announcements

With the Consumer Electronics Show going on in Las Vegas, many companies have taken it as an opportunity to roll out or at least announce their latest Palm applications. Unfortuantely, in the rush not all can get in-depth coverage. Below are a few that are interesting but not important enough to be a stand-alone article.

Peoplestreet announced the free public beta of an online service that allows users to exchange self-updating electronic business cards. Users update their own info and all of the people they have exchanged info with in the past will receive the update. They now offer an add-in that stores the cards directly in the Outlook 2000 address book and a version for the Palm Desktop is coming up soon.

Handango and Sony Electronics have teamed up to offer Clié users a wide selection of downloadable applications bt visiting the Clié website and choosing "Software Links". Also, the two companies will collaborate to expand the number of applications that use the Clié's special features: Memory Sticks and the Jog Dial.

thinkingBytes Technology has released thinkDB 2.0. that gives wireless access to corporate database information. It allows up to 100 databases with each offering up to 80 fields, editable forms, security, new bi-directional synchronization software with MS Access, and more. It costs $40.

Self-Updating Business Cards

I think the idea of being able to update my addressbook entry in all my friends' & family's computers and Palms is a great one. I hope this works out. Frankly, I'm a little surprised MS didn't think of it themselves and add it to Exchange.
