The week started off with a report on the unauthorized OS 4.1 upgrade some Sony N710C owners had performed. Other big stories included Palm's CEO's presentation at the shareholders' meeting and the report spelling out the Palm OS's continued domination of retail sales. From the rumors department can a report that Palm would be releasing a hi-res handheld before OS 5 comes out and that Handspring is planning on releasing the Treo line of smartphones on Monday. New applications announced this week include Anagram, PDA Defense, and Quickstart. In hardware news, check out the PowerCradle and HandEra will be supporting an 802.11b CF card. In the forums, there's a poll on the pirated N710C upgrade and another on possible future Palm-branded handhelds. And lots of other stuff, too. In the Marketplace, almost every type of handheld you can think of is for sale, including a Sony N760C, a Palm m500, V, and Vx, a Visor Deluxe, and tons more.

"And perhaps other flamers here can accept the fact that just BECAUSE some posters mention PocketPC doesn't mean that they are trolls." RE: The week also had more annoying posts from HandEra fanatics
Early 2001 - Handera releases a handheld that has SD/MMC support and CF support. Late 2001 - Toshiba, Compaq, and Casio (I think) release handhelds that have both SD/MMC support and CF support. Maybe Handera is not the Devil... Maybe they put out a quality product with innovative features... Maybe other handhelp companies are following their lead? Leave the nice Handera people alone. There are perhaps half a dozen or so HandEra supporters that post here regularly, and while some of them appear to be quite knowledgeable, their fervor has become irksome to many readers. But remember, gloating CLIE owners can be even worse! ;-)
A few of their innovative features: - Running programs seamlessly (without dely) from CompactFlash. The HandEra 330 introduced a higher resolution (but monochrome) display, collapsible Soft Graffiti screen, extra SD slot (deferring to Palm, rather than using another - superior - CompactFlash slot), voice recorder (of limited use for most people) and optional removeable lithium battery. Unfortunately, they kept the same big Palm III-sized case (while good for maintaining compatibility with older accessories, small size is probably more important for most Palm owners), designed an unattractive shell, started having quality control problems (now resolved?), ignored the industry's move to color sreens, continued their marketing ineptitude (they even appear to have now lost their only non-mail order retailer), and have had problems fixing the bugs introduced by the added complexity of the OS. HandEra is a good company with good products and solid engineering. I'm just not sure they have what it takes to successfully sell a PDA in 2001. I wish Sony or Palm would just buy HandEra and add their best features into a new PDA.
Just wanted to tell you that you switched the links to the Forum threads around. Hope this error gets corrected, and keep up the good work.
