Have Some Fun with Lock'Em Up

Posted By: Ed on Wednesday, October 24, 2001 11:40:29 AM

LUDIgames has released Lock'Em Up, an action/puzzle game in which the player has to maneuver four not too smart little characters through a maze. It has 35 levels with different challenges, four creatures with different behavior, and five difficulty levels. It supports both color and grayscale handhelds. It is available now for $15.

Gameplay involves both strategic and tactical elements. The four characters can't be directly controlled. Players control them by changing the direction of arrows on the floor. Each character moves at a different speed, they can't run into each other, and all four must reach the exit in order to complete a level.

"I don't wanna.... I'm a toysrus kid!"

Excellent response :) Made me laugh.

Yeah, color is cool, but I'm not a person who thinks it's essential. As someone else here labeled me, I suppose I have a "minimalistic zen philosphy"...

I'm still happy with my palm m105 (no color, low res, no removeable memory, etc...) I admit though, had I the money, I would probably go for all that stuff.

Well... colorful it is alright. Quite cute, "for girls", even that is huge (600k).
It is not Bejeweled nor Vexed - It is more close to Lemmings. Later in the game it is more about coordination and fast thinking.
Anyway, I have all the games and play them about as much each. I get bored quick. As I have long waiting hours I play all day. :-)
If you like any of those games this is a nice addiction.

 600K ??

How can a game like this possibly be this HUGE? The gameplay is fine, but games with similar characteristcs are well under 100k. What's going on back threre?

Maybe it's because of all the bitmaps for both colour and the different shades of grey? Plus, if they added some higher-res versions of their bmps for the Handera and Clie, it'll easy take up lots of space.

nah.. thats a load of bollocks.. our lemmings demo is < 100k, and we have much more graphics in it than these types of games.. some developers need to rethink how much space they really use..lemmings supports hires modes and has over 500 sprites! thats no including the background bitmaps.. there is a load of bloatware coming out.. its a pity :(

Ok, cool that you know how to minimize the prc size Ardiri.

Could you please inform me what the difference between a sprite and a bitmap is, and why it takes less place ? =) ( How do you display a sprite? ) :)

Thanks,

while the game is nice, it is far from great. You can't run it reliably from the card on an m505 using PiDirect. I tried a few things and it froze each time. Moved over to the Palm side and it ran, but was far from worth all the effort. It's no Bejeweled or even Vexed - if you like puzzlers there are better games.
