Organize Your Handheld with myWorkbench 2.0

myWorkbench 2.0 is an application for managing files on Palm OS handhelds with VFS expansion cards. Users can copy, move, and delete files from RAM and memory cards. myWorkbench can also launch applications and databases in RAM and on the card. Databases are sync'ed back to the card after the app is closed. It even runs in high resolution on Sony Cliés. It is available now for $15.

In addition myWorkbench also lets users create new folders, format and rename removable cards, change file information, backup and restore files and more.

When a file or database is opened from the memory card, myWorkbench will copy the app and all the associated databases to RAM and then open them from there. Applications are not run from the card directly. myWorkbench looks for the associated application in the same folder with the file or database. If it can't find it, the file won't be opened.

Unlike other launchers, files and apps don't have to be in the /Palm/Launcher directory.

When you exit the just launched app, myWorkbench will move all the modified files and databases back to the location where they came from. This is another big step over some competing products, that only allow read-only files to be opened.

myWorkbench also offers support for the multiple expansion cards on the Handera 330. Users can have both CF and SD/MMC on a split view and can toggle between split and single view.

can it copy between CF and SD/MMC, or does it still need to go through RAM to do that?

It still have to copy the files from CF to ram and then from ram to SD/MMC.

do you know any program that does CF->SD/MMC directly using VFS manager without going to ram?

Why does'nt Palm bundle a good file manager with the device? I think Handera has a good one. Could'nt Palm license it or something.

Think about what you asking for. Copy operations on your desktop hit RAM before their final destination. Why would your palm be any different? Of course the data will hit RAM before it goes to another card.

Cheers!
