Palm Inc. has named a board of directors for PalmSource, its subsidiary responsible for developing and licencing the Palm OS. This is an important milestone in the process of spinning off the subsidiary. This board will oversee the company once it is a separate unit, which is expected to happen later this year. David Nagel has been in charge of Palm's operating system group for almost a year and was appointed to be the Chief Executive Officer when the OS group was made into PalmSource. He will continue to be CEO. The chairman of PalmSource's board will be Eric Benhamou, Palm's chairman and interim CEO. The other members of the board will be David Nagel; Jean-Louis Gasse, who used to be the CEO of Be. Inc.; Satjiv Chahil, who is the Chief Marketing Officer for Palm; and Robert J. Finocchio Jr., former 3Com president and Informix CEO. It is not yet know how Palm will go about starting the new company. It could do an IPO or simply distribute the stock to shareholders of Palm Inc. Related Information: More Stories Like This... I didn't make it to the list :( RE: :(I.M. Anonymous @ 6/25/2002 1:11:50 PM #
Woo hoo ... "Mr. I.M. Anonymous (former rumour monger and generic Corporate Disinformation Officer at PIC) has been appointed to the board of PalmSource as the Executive Special Advisor of Really Important Stuff. After the announcement was made, I.M Anonymous was overheard stating that 'All I really wanted was a really cool acronym. WTF is ESARIS? Can I see the new Clie 8000 now?' On being informed that it spelt SIRASE backwards Mr Anonymous thanked the board and was content playing with the crayons and butchers paper the board told him was a new interface they were playing with." Happy now? RE: :(I.M. Anonymous @ 6/25/2002 1:56:51 PM #
you know if Palm ugrade their devices and OS as fast as they change CEO and juggling board members. maybe.....JUST maybe...... we wouldn't be in this much trouble to begin with. oh well. RE: :(I.M. Anonymous @ 6/25/2002 2:02:30 PM #
Are you paying attention? This isn't Palm's Board of Directors. This is PalmSource's Board. Of course there needs to be some changes at PalmSource, its becoming a separate company. These new people aren't replacing anyone. They are PalmSource's first BoD.
Palm changed their CEO from Carl Yankowski to Eric Benhamou 9 months ago. Quick, who was the CEO before that? Trick question because it was before Palm was an independent company so it was some guy who worked for 3Com. You don't know his name because that was at least three years ago. Look, Palm has some genuine things to complain about but this isn't one of them.

www.theregister.co.uk/content/54/25886.html Its suprising how many of the Be staff are influencing Palm, if BE OS is anything to go by the newer Palm OS's could be very innovative. Cheers RE: related articale from The RegisterToken User @ 6/25/2002 3:08:16 PM #
I loved BeOS. I hope that Be brought only the technical know how to PalmSource, and left the business models behind with the sinking ship. Roll on PalmBE 6.0. RE: related articale from The RegisterI.M. Anonymous @ 6/25/2002 3:41:41 PM #
If you look at some screen shots of BeOS, their great... hope to see something good from PALM!

There's been a lot of hype about the alleged "spin off" of Palm Source. I don't want to rain on the parade, but isn't it all just smoke and mirrors? As near as I can tell, Palm will always control PalmSource.
And speaking of smoke and mirrors, isn't that Eric Benhamou, chairman of 3Com, at the helm of the allegedly independent Palm Inc?
