PalmSource and Good Bringing GoodLink to Palm OS

PalmSource has teamed up with Good Technology to port GoodLink to the Palm OS. The GoodLink wireless corporate messaging system works with Microsoft Exchange Server to give handheld users a continuously synchronized wireless connection with Microsoft Outlook accounts when they are away from their desktops. There was no word when GoodLink for the Palm OS would be available

GoodLink handles email, secure attachments, contacts, calendar, notes, and tasks. It ensures that actions taken by the user, whether on the handheld or on the desktop, are mirrored. Delete a message and it is gone everywhere. Same with filing in folders, or even "marking read".

"This alliance provides our licensees with another valuable enterprise service that promotes cost savings while helping employees to be more productive," said David Nagel, CEO of PalmSource.

Palm Inc. has recently announced similar systems for its own handhelds but GoodLink will be available to work with the handhelds from any Palm OS licensee.

how do you get the email in real time

I.M. Anonymous @ 9/26/2002 12:04:03 PM #
how do you get the email in real time in the same way goodlink works on the rim device. I currently have goodlink and I would love to consolidate to one device but if I have to dial up to check email than its no different than any other mail program for the palm that is out there right now for the most part
I would assume that if you have an always on GPRS

connection, you could continually sync thru your bluetooth phone, or combo PalmOS Phone.

If you pay by the kb, this might get expensive quickly.

This sounds great, can't wait to see it in action!

The interesting fact is that Good Technology and RIM are in the process of suing each other over patents.

They used to make the MP3 springboard module for the Handspring. Now they make corporate software. Go figure!

The key to the transition was Good's hiring of a technical wizard away from Cingular who understands RIM's technology and how to improve upon it. Good's wireless sync and support for attachments put Good ahead of RIM. Now RIM is playing catch-up and trying to stall Good with their lawyers.

there biggest selling point is that you dont need to synch up that its all done wirelessly, well i can tell you from experience this does not always happen. also sending and recieving mail is not as quick compare to the previous blackberry software i had. The software also uses battery life much quicker compared to the blackberry. Dont get me wrong i still like it but it has some bugs to work out

Palm, Inc. vs PalmSource?

Scott R @ 9/26/2002 9:56:15 PM #
Am I missing something or does this sound like it competes with the Tungsten MIM Solution Palm, Inc. just announced the other day? Note that Tungsten was announced by Palm, Inc. while this GoodLink announcement was made by PalmSource.

This was covered in the article:

"Palm Inc. has recently announced similar systems for its own handhelds but GoodLink will be available to work with the handhelds from any Palm OS licensee. "

Actually why does the Palm's MIM solution only work with Palm-branded handhelds? Is it a technical or marketing reason?

Good MP3 player

I.M. Anonymous @ 9/29/2002 4:15:50 AM #
Now if they can release an MP3 software player app for the PalmOS 5, they can fully utilize their portfolio! That was a damn good player! Too bad it was Springboard instead of Universal Connector.
