Handheld sales up 169%

There's no question that Handheld devices and Palm PDA's have been getting allot of attention and support lately, and now the numbers are in to confirm the rise of the PDA. CNET has an article on the latest sales figures in the Handheld market. They attribute the gains to more features and price ranges and that, "People rely on the new functionality of handheld devices for easier, more efficient completion of the same tasks formerly reserved for desktop or notebook PCs."

Simplicity is why...

I think the main reason behind all of this is touched upon in the last comment regarding the "efficient completion of the same tasks [as PCs]." I think this is key in why PDAs have been so quickly adopted and also why they've been adopted across so many demographics. This is also why the success of devices like Palm-based organizers; Palms, Handsprings as well as other, stripped down ones like the Psion triumphed over WinCE. After all, the idea of a PDA is to have simple access to routine functions and info, not to carry a scaled-down version of a PC in your pocket with the same operability restrained by size and input method.
