SplashMoney features

When will Landware's Pocket Quicken incorporate these features? PQ is starting to fall behind, IMHO.

I'm sticking with PocketQuicken. Problem with
SplashMoney is they
have a nice list of features, but most of them aren't
implimented all the way. The syncing is only one way
with Quicken, the "budgetting" is just a list
of numbers. They don't care about how well the
program is usable. They add just enough "feature" to
add it to the feature list, even if its not very usable.
Landware does it right. If the features listed, its
in there for real, unlike splashmoney. PQ's well worth the extra
few bucks. Try 'em both and see what I mean.

On the other hand, I'm glad to see Avantgo for 5.0
progressing nicely. Now if my local paper will just
join the 21st century and add Avantgo.

How seamless is splashmoney?...I hate dealing with importing/exporting files. How does it handle two users, one data file? i.e. My wife and I have two palm organizers, one checking account.

Why does everyone hold up pocket quicken as "the standard" As a personal checkbook it's very limited! Although I prefer Desktop Quicken(!!!), I currently use Micro$oft Money, because of Ultrasoft Money...THE BEST product of its kind out there IMO. It's what Pocket Quicken aspires to be!!

At any rate, I would switch back to quicken in a second if I could get a similar feature set, and seamless integration that Ultrasoft Money gives me.

Landware is now focusing all of their attention on PQ for PPC (see recent Brighthand statement). However, they are behind development for that product as well. When Landware release PQ v2.0 nearly two years ago, Clinton Logan promised that there would be continued upgrades for Pocket Quicken users. Since then they have released only bug fixes with no real product enhancements. I have been an avid supporter of Landware in the past, but now I'm not sure that they can update their products quickly enough to keep up with the competition.

My MLB schedule 2003

jaykacik @ 3/29/2003 10:34:50 AM #
This program seems a good value at $14.95, but if you are looking for just the schedules (no updateable stats, etc.), there is a guy that put together date book importable versions for every MLB team, and one for all teams (Palm OS). It runs you $1.50 per team, or $1.50 for the complete league schedule.

I haven't tried his yet, and I don't know the guy, it just seemed to go hand and hand with this story.

Benefit of Bt SD card on Tt...?

Marshall Flinkman @ 3/29/2003 8:30:28 PM #
What's the benefit of the Bluetooth card over the built-in Bluetooth capability?

That's the TW, not the TT.

BtToggle allows you to turn Bluetooth on with apps that need it and off when switch away from them automatically - makes a difference to the battery usage. You can also control which hard keys can turn the TT on - avoid flat battery accidents.

Well worth $10.

Dave - a happy customer.

New AvantGo Beta

solemar @ 3/30/2003 11:52:57 PM #
According to the AG website the new OS5 beta (build 65): "In response to user feedback, we have further refined the operation of the Palm 5-way navigator and Sony jog dial"

Well I have got used to the previous method which, whilst clunky sometmes (e.g. BBC News site), was workable with one hand. The "new and improved" version does not actually appear to allow any navigation by D-Pad at all beyond back and forward a page plus a scroll within the current page. I cannot figure oput how to get it to move the "target" highlight and hence select new items to open. In this configuration the interface is unsuable for me without the stylus - so what's the point?

Am I missing something?

In AvantGo, go to Preferences and check Remap Application Buttons. This will allow you to use the ToDo and Notepad buttons to move up and down links.

Remaping in AvantGo does not interfere with any other button mappings you have made using QLaunch or other button mapping apps. This only applys when you are actually using AvantGo.

Thanks, Wolvy. I'm not sure how you're supposed to know this stuff, there was no readme in the beta install. I'm not actually sure I like the new button set up as before you could do all with the D-Pad, now you have to juggle that and two other buttons. Hopefully it'll become natural in a couple of days

I am curious to know; have you had any problems (read crashes) with this beta of Avantgo? I used it on my old Palm but not on the new OS5, I have been reluctant to try it. I guess I want to now if you have had to do any hard resets?

RE: New AvantGo Beta
Wolvy @ 4/1/2003 1:47:33 AM #
No problems with crashes. I use AvantGo extensively every day and all seems very stable.

I find using the button assignment actually better than before, as I found it so hard to just do normal scrolling with the up down buttons. Still has some refinement needing done but going in the right direction. Would be good if they changed the Hi-res font to bold, as it's pretty small on some pages.

I don't like the button assignments in as much as it takes over all 4 of the hard buttons and means that getting quickly to another app such as address book requires a long press of the D-pad centre button followed by the required app button. If they would alow more flexible assignment I would be happier.
