Quickies: Mobile Word, Flags, Software & More
A new word processor has hit the scene, AvantGo is no longer beta, Palm has a patriotic Flag app available, PalmGear has a new look, the T|C WiFi Sniffer has a new name plus much more in this update.
Mobile Word 2003
Mobile Systems has released a new word compatible text editing application, called Mobile Word 2003. The new app has desktop like tools for document formatting, Microsoft Word synchronization, a spell checker and support for images. The app also has a built in spellchecker, support for fonts and colors and a Mobile Word Desktop companion and Integration with Microsoft Word (for Windows only). There is a trial available and costs $29.95.
AvantGo for Palm OS 5
AvantGo has announced that the current client version 5.2 (build 83; released 5/14/03) is now the production version. The beta designation has now been dropped.
Free 'Beamable' American Flag
Palm is celebrating the Fourth of July by making a free American Flag program available to download. The application, called Solidarity, features the American flag and the option to play "America the Beautiful," "God Bless America," or "The Star-Spangled Banner." The program was originally inspired after the tragic events of September 11, 2001.
PalmGear.com has relaunched with a fresh new redesign. The software site now lists over 18,500 palm os software titles. -carguy
One for all Solitaires Collection
Paragon Software has released the One for all Solitaires Collection. It is the largest collection of solitaire games available in one single bundle for the Palm OS. The more than 200 versions include FreeCell, Klondike, Black Hole, Calculation, Carpet, Yukon, Joker solitaires and many more. There are greyscale and color high res versions available. A demo version is avialable, the collection costs $24.95 to register.
AeroPlayer, the palm os portable audio player, is now up to version 2.6. Recent improvements include bass boost, plug-ins and skins can now be run from a memory card a high-quality graphic equalizer and much more.
Music Studio MicroMadHouse has released Music Studio for the Palm OS. Music Studio is a mobile music composer that allows amateurs and professionals alike to create music whenever the mood strikes them. Music Studio can be used to create and edit polyphonic melodies simply by tapping notes out on a virtual keyboard. Up to 8 different tracks can be composed per melody, utilising over 100 instruments. Each track can then be converted to the standard RTTTL format. Alarms can be saved and managed, and melodies can be exported to a PC as Midis, using the provided conduit. Melodies can also be beamed as ringtones to compatible mobile phones. Music Studio sells for $12.95, with $2 of every sale going to the online charity, NetAid.org.
WiFi Sniffer for the Tungsten C
PIC previously wrote about beta testing for WiFinder, a WiFi hotspot scanner. The software has now reached 1.0 and has been renamed “NetChaser” to avoid trademark conflicts. Now that it’s out of beta, it’s also ($10) shareware. -Alex
