The inventor Chung C.L. announced a patent pending position encoder system that enables a computer scroll mice, an electronic pen and a joy-stick all be fit into a size as small as 3 cm x 2 cm or even smaller. Included in the position encoder system is a "mouse switch" device that provides an attractive input solution for the emerging internet/wireless consumer devices including hand-held and palm-top internet devices, internet phones, internet gaming console controllers, remote controllers for NetTV set-top boxes, etc. The "mouse switch" adds values to these devices by providing the same functionality of a conventional computer scroll mice, plus the ability of hand writing as well as playing decent computer games, altogether in a small area with ease of use and high performance. The "mouse switch" can lower the production cost by eliminating the need for touch screens as well as stylus while maintaining and exceeding the respective capabilities. A prototype of the "mouse switch" can be found on the web site.
Because of its superb support for computer mouse operations, state-of-the-art GUI (Graphical User Interface) controls can be readily exploited in small internet/wireless devices. This means that an easier transition of traditional desktop windows applications to smaller portable devices can be achieved with less or no modification of the screen display. The "mouse switch" promotes miniaturization by breaking the input barrier and lessening the difference between desktop computers and hand-held devices.
