Unlocked Palm Centro Now Available in the US

Palm today has made an unlocked version of the Palm Centro available on its website in the US. The unlocked GSM version is available in Glacier white (white casing with a light grey accented keypad) for $299. Palm is listing a 1-2 day estimated ship date and is currently offering free shipping on all orders over $49.

The Palm Centro is a quad-band GSM/EDGE smartphone running Palm OS Garnet v5.4.9. It has a 320x320 pixel touchscreen display, Bluetooth v1.2, a 1.3 megapixel digital camera with video capture and 64MB of memory. For memory expansion it has a microSD slot.

The Centro has dimensions of 4.22" (L) x 2.11" (W) x 0.73" (D) (107 x 54 x 18.5 mm) and weighs in at 4.2 oz (119g). Palm's imaginary battery life rating is 4 hours talk time with 300 hours standby. It has a 1150 mAh capacity.

Is it available at the NY Store?

Hi!

Anyone in Manhattan? Can you confirm if the Palm Store at the Rockfeller Center is already selling the unlocked Centro? A friend will be visiting NY next weekend, so he may be getting one.

That store (the flagship store and the last "new" Palm retail store to open) was shuttered early this year. The only Palm retail store that remains is their "HQ" store right there in Sunnyvale. Hmmm, while on that topic....is that store STILL confirmed open?

I phoned the Sunnyvale HQ number yesterday, asked to be connected to the retail store and spoke with a woman. I asked if the new white unlocked gsm centro was available to purchse and she said no...and that they had them on order for several weeks. Hmmm - I wonder if they really had that long of advance notice. So, I went ahead and ordered 2 on-line with special overnight free shipping. When I placed the order, it said they would be received on or before 6/25. But today I rec'd an email saying on or before 6/26. Anyone else want to check with them today to see if they have them at the store yet?
