Rogers Picks Up the Palm Centro in Canada
Palm and Rogers Wireless today announced the Canadian launch of the popular Palm Centro smartphone. The Canadian Centro is available in Cobalt Blue and sells for as low as $199 CAD. The Centro is Palm's smallest and lightest smartphone to date and has sold more than one million units worldwide.
The Palm Centro is a quad-band GSM/EDGE smartphone running Palm OS Garnet v5.4.9. It has a 320x320 pixel touchscreen display, Bluetooth v1.2, a 1.3 megapixel digital camera with video capture and 64MB of memory. For memory expansion it has a microSD slot. You can find our original Centro review here.
"Traditional cell phone users are stepping up the Palm Centro in droves because of its cool design, full keyboard and ease of use," said Brodie Keast, senior vice president of marketing for Palm, Inc. "More and more people need voice, text, email, web, contact and calendar capabilities all wrapped in one compact device so they can stay connected with everyone who is important to them. Centro delivers all that and more."
The pricing details on Palm's "Buy" page state the Rogers Centro will be available for $199 CAD for existing customers and $299 CAD for new customers. The fine print further reveals that a three-year voice and data plan activation is required.
