Earthcomber Releases Mobile USA Travel Guides

DiscoverOurTown, an Internet city guide for 2,000 USA cities, is now available in a mobile GPS-enabled format for Palm OS and Windows Mobile PDAs and smartphones. The new travel guides are powered by Earthcomber, a free mobile service that matches users favorite interests to spots around them.

Anyone interested in exploring towns of all sizes along America’s highways will enjoy these free DiscoverOurTown listings, travelers select favorite types of amusements, eateries, historical points and other interests, and Earthcomber alerts them to nearby attractions that match. As people travel through an area, DiscoverOurTown can help them find local hotels, unique shops, local services, restaurants, businesses, events and relocation information.

Earthcomber, available as a free download for Palm OS and Windows Mobile, is a navigational aid program that includes maps of every region in the United States. The patent-pending technology maintains individual privacy while constantly combing the area each person travels for anything from an ATM to a waterfall, cup of coffee, museum, bistro, school, golf course, bar or even local events. All users of Earthcomber automatically receive the DiscoverOurTown listings when they download Earthcomber maps and location data.

“Many people travel with enormous travel guides full of bookmarks of interesting destinations they would like to visit along their route. Imagine those bookmarks tapping you on the shoulder and letting you know that you are within a mile of a place that would make your trip just perfect,” says Jim Brady, Earthcomber CEO who came up with the concept for Earthcomber during personal travels. “The idea is that life is so much more interesting, and we get so much more out of every day, if only we can know what's right around us.”
