Handmark Releases Pocket Express v3

The new release of Handmark Pocket Express now offers free news, sports, and weather to smartphone and handheld users. The service still offers movie showtimes, 411 directory search, street level maps and turn-by-turn driving directions for an additional subscription fee.

Handmark Pocket ExpressThanks to its intuitive PageOne interface, users can access content using a fraction of the clicks required by mobile browsing. It offers dynamic news and sports content, stock quotes, Dear Abby, Astrology and access to thesaurus and dictionary lookup.

The new version of Pocket Express more than doubles the available content for the same monthly subscription of $6.99. Anyone with a supported Palm Treo smartphone can download and use Pocket Express, 3rd Edition for two-weeks, free of charge. At the end of the two-week period, subscribers can continue at the normal monthly rate or keep the free news/weather/sports features, at no cost whatsoever.

v 3.0 1446 Treo650 BEWARE...

Ive been using the Experss service since it came out, and i have to say I've been a pretty happy paying customer. Now with the release of 3.0 it looks pretty cool. Several issues i have run into are the following on the Treo650 of which I have sent to Handmark Support for 4 days, and finally got an answer somewhat.

1. None of the channels will update from the main window update button, unless the Channel is located in the internal RAM. If you move it to the card from within Express it will not update. You have to select EACH channel, go into it and do the Update in it - This works, but leaves me little room for anything else on the internal memory. (This all did work in the 2.0 version prior)

2. The Main Screen "EXIT" button does not work at all.

3. AutoUpdate does not run for custom Day and Times.

4. Sports Channel has a Nascar data block on the internal RAM 236K and will not move to the SD Card at all. I moved the Sports Chanel to the Card, but this stays on the internal RAM.

AND Lots of Resets!!!!

Well I went and got this so called new version - GUESS What!!! No New Version... Still the same 3.0 1446. I've gone and downloaded several ways and Nope! No Update - WTF!!! Now I send back a Reply that nothing was fixed at all, and it is the same version. I fear now I will wait another 4 days again for a reply. I've decided to go back to version 2.0 for now. Serves me right for jumping on so quick, but you figure the Treo 650 is a good chunk of their business that this would have beed tested better. Yes, I'm a Mac & Windows software developer for one of the print system in the world, so i know what goes into this stuff.

I just wish they had a contact number other then just this E-Mail only thing.

The latest downloadable build from http://express.handmark.com/downloads.php should be Pocket Express v 3.0.1.1465 . I have just downloaded and installed from the link above to a device that did not have the latest build installed and the 3.0.1.1465 version does appear to be the file being delivered. If you do not currently see this version number in “About Express…” I would ask that you please reinstall one more time from the download page linked above. The download may have been updated since your last installation attempt. This version should address some of what you are seeing.

With this version, we cannot seem to reproduce the problem you are reporting of the Pocket Express “Exit” button not working properly or the auto update issue. However, we have logged your reports of the failure of Auto Racing to move to the card properly and the issues you are seeing with channels not updating when on the card. Our development team is working diligently to address those issues at this minute.

We apologize for the delayed support response. Our support team makes every effort to try and answer all inquiries within one business day, but due to the higher volume of inquiries associated with a new product release, they are experiencing a slight backlog at this time. No support inquiries are being ignored and I assure you that our support team is working through them as quickly as possible. Scott, did you ever get a solution to this problem? I've been trying to get this program to work for weeks. On the advice of Handmark, I deleted it from my Treo, including the backups on my Mac, and reinstalled the latest version, V3 build 1466. It worked for a day, but now the same problems are back.
