Humane Society Adopts Treo Smartphones

Posted By: Ryan on Tuesday, April 11, 2006 11:05:23 AM

Palm has announced that the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) is using Palm Treo smartphones to increase workflow productivity by enabling employees to collect information while out in the field and share it with press, customers and colleagues on the spot.

For emergency management and general business, the nation's largest animal-protection organization relies on Treo smartphones, Bluetooth headsets and messaging software from Good Technology.

After evaluating several competing options, HSUS chose the Treo/GoodLink solution because of its ease of use, flexibility and all-in-one form factor. Employees working in field services, communications and legislative affairs as well as senior executives organizationwide use the solution for access to email, contacts, calendaring, instant messaging, tracking and phone for emergency management.

Bunny"The Humane Society of the United States protects animals 24 hours a day, seven days a week around the globe," said Laura Folden, director of IT for HSUS. "Without our Treo smartphones, it would have been nearly impossible to keep up the pace over the last year, especially given the scope of our disaster-response efforts. Treo smartphones created a surge in our communications and productivity."

"Treo smartphones give mobile professionals, like those at HSUS, the freedom to leave their laptops behind and still stay connected to the office and the critical information they need most," said Tara Griffin, vice president of enterprise markets for Palm, Inc. "With Treo smartphones, HSUS emergency workers are readily available to coordinate animal-rescue efforts, especially in disaster-ridden areas with no power."

Treo with Palm OS or Windows Mobile?

The article does not specify whether this is the 700W or 650...wonder which one it is!

650. Palm's likely dumping excess inventory of 650s that Sprint/Verizon no longer needed/wanted.

Better to sell all of 'em off in lots to corporations or large scale deployments within organizations such as this rather than mark 'em down and give them to some liquidator to dump onto the market/E-Bay for cheap and pull the rug out from under the not-that-heavily-upgraded 700P that's coming soon.

Remember folks, it's the CARRIERS that sell Treos to you and me on an individual...carriers, not you and I, are Palm's new customers!

These are being used with Cingular and EDGE - so they must be Palm OS Treo 650's
