WeSync Relaunched as ClearSync

Posted By: Ryan on Tuesday, August 01, 2006 1:17:05 PM

The web service formerly known as WeSync has been recently relaunched as ClearSync. ClearSync is a web and Palm based service for viewing multiple calendars with the ability to share and sync individual and group schedules over the web.

ClearSync CalendarClearSync allows users to create and edit multiple calendars and contact lists on a Palm OS device or on a PC via a web browser interface. Users can share calendars and contacts with others and you can also view schedules side by side on the Palm application. The Palm application can view and edit multiple calendars, and the PC software can sync with Outlook and with a remote server.

The service has multiple account options. There is a limited free account, which alows you to view over the web. The silver and gold accounts provide more levels of features and sell for $19.95 and $59.59 per year.

Palm Inc acquired the service in December of 2000. Palm Inc later used the engenieers and technology from their WeSync and Anyday.com acquisitions to build the former MyPalm wireless web portal. When Palm and PalmSource split up PalmSource gained control of the service and sold it to Tanner Research in late 2004.

Thanks to David Nicolaou for the tip.

 Bwahahaha!!! Edsel relaunched as Ethel!

So less than 6 years ago Palm bought the promising service, WeSync + managed to quickly (almost instantly) run it into the ground. (Somehow my old WeSync account managed to keep working even after Palm had abandoned the site.) I fail to see how abandoning this program saved Palm any money - PalmSource probably sold the site for less than $1 million. Not exactly a good return on investment...

MultiMail and anyday.com were similarly trashed by the geniuses at Palm.

By the way, WeSync originally cost Palm over $40 MILLION.

You're right. This is some of the worst money management I've ever seen. Losing all this money when Nagel could have gotten a better severence package is such a shame. :-(

Maybe you could set up a PayPal donation account for Nagel + Benhamou.

P.S. I've started a petition to bring Carl Yankowski back to Palm. Please sign it at http://www.carlyankowski.com/petition

Bring Carl back to FINISH the job* he started.
