Google Maps for the Palm Pre Demo'd

Palm Pre Google MapsGoogle's VP of engineering, Vic Gundotra demonstrated the Google Maps application for the Palm Pre at a session at the Mobile World Congress show in Barcelona this week. PreCommunity was in attendance and has posted a video clip (also embedded after the break) and some interesting details about the app.

The video also shows the Pre's unlock screen and the Mr. Gundotra calls the Pre "arguably one of my most favorite devices." The Maps app itself is apparently coded totally in HTML5, relying on the AppCache, GeoLocation and Database standards. It supports the Pre's multi-touch navigational gestures such and double tap and pinch to zoom and also incorporates offline functionality.
