Since the release of the first Handspring Visor, many have asked for a model that is comparable to the V series in size that can still run Springboards. Recently, rumors have begun to circulate that Handspring has created a prototype that fits this description called the "Edge" that will be available in the next few months.
The challenge for Handspring's design team is that the Springboard slot is just too big to fit into a super-slim handheld. According to reports from those who claim to have seen pictures, Handspring has solved this problem by creating a "sleeve" that fits around the Edge and has a Springboard slot built into it. This is similar to the sleeve for the iPaq that allows it to access peripherals.

Palm Inc. said today that it has more than 50% of the Japanese handheld market. Craig Will, representative director at Palm, was referring to a study by BCN, a news service run by Computer News Inc. Mr. Will also predicted that Palm's share of the Japanese market will only increase. "We've built the foundation for further growth.''
@Stake has pointed that anyone with developer tools can access data on Palm handhelds that have been locked with a password. Most savvy users have been aware for a long time that the security built into the OS is easily circumvented in several ways but this might still be news to many new users.

Next week Verizon Wireless is going to begin selling the Kyocera QCP 6035, a smartphone that runs the Palm OS, according to a Nando Times
article. It will sell for $500 with a one-year service contract. Sprint PCS will also be selling it later.
The Kyocera QCP 6035 has a a smaller screen than the V series, probably about the same size as that on the m100 series. It is a bit thicker than a V, a touch longer, and heavier.

Handspring is about to start offering a $50 rebate on its Visor Deluxe, according to a Cnet
article. This will reduce the Visor to $200, the same price at which Palm is expected to release the m105. The rebate will begin this Sunday and run through April.
Handspring is clearly trying to steal some of Palm's thunder during the launch of the m105, which is probably going to be next week. By offering a device with many of the same features plus the Springboard slot at the same price they will probably have some success.
