A new review has been posted by fellow
NPUG member Clayton "Randy" Jones. His review is on HandMap, a mapping software application for your Palm device.
HandMap is freeware but there are two other versions that you can pay for. One is HandMap Deluxe (which allows for 3rd party built maps), cost $16.00 or HandMap Pro (same functionality of HandMap Deluxe and also supports plugins such as a GPS Tracker), cost $35.00.

In an effort to better support the Palm community
PalmaServ is now distributing its new titles in both iSilo and standard Doc formats. Furthermore the vast majority of previously released iSilo titles are now available in both formats as well.
To accommodate this growth the standard Doc Library has been subdivided into three separate volumes; Humanities, Reference & Entertainment.

ZDNet also has an
article on HandSpring's plans to make the Visor available at a select group of retail stores by the end of the quarter. They also mention some sketchy details about the next generation Visor...
"HandSpring is experimenting with thinner, lighter designs, and color screens. The trick will be shaping the design around Springboard, making sure that it is still easily accessible to users."

In the news lately are the denial of service (DoS) attacks on sites like Yahoo!, CNN and ZDNet. Ironically, the Palm e-Book-of-the-Month for Nonfiction, selected by
Qvadis, is "The Hacker Crackdown" by Bruce Sterling.
This contemporary classic is a freeze-frame of time, when in 1990, scores of suspected illicit hackers were arrested by law-enforcement officials. The raids, and the cases that followed, became a metaphor for the clash between civil liberties and the need to fight computer crime.

CNET is
claiming that Visors will start appearing on store shelves around Feb. 20th. This move comes after
HandSpring had a
hard time keeping up with demand from their online store.
"Retailers are going to conclude they can get a lot of volume out of the Visor, and they might drop Windows CE shelf space."

First, we are very pleased to announce that version 3.5 of the Palm OS software has been declared "GM" (Golden Master) - meaning that the platform software is complete and is available to the various licensees of the Palm Computing platform (IBM, Symbol, Qualcomm, TRG,
Handspring, Sony, Nokia, and of course Palm itself). We are working with the licensees to help them include Palm OS software version 3.5 in their current and/or future devices as their schedules and needs dictate. Please direct product inquiries to the licensees directly; we can't make announcements on their behalf. More...
