Palm has a feature list in their
development zone on OS 3.5. Some of the major improvements are:
- Support for 1, 2, 4, and 8 bit color and grayscale.
- The datebook new Agenda view combines the days appointments and To-Do's
- Built in snooze for alarms
- Auto-completion of text for address inputs
- and much, much more...
Expect to see it with the color Palms in the first half of 2000.

A company called PFU released the
Happy Hacker cradle that allows you to use a standard PS/2 keyboard with your palm device. On a similar note Microsoft released
this keyboard for use with CE and windows desktop machines. ZDNet has an
article for further reading on the keyboard device.

There's a very good article on
sv.com on how Mike Cassidy was seduced into digital dependence. It's a great reflection on the appeal and acceptance of the Palm in today's world.
"The Palm would make me a man, a man of the world--organized, nimble, mobile, and most of all, cool". It's well worth the
read.

Here's some more bad news for Windows CE. The article states that Palm is expected to have 80% of the pda market by years end. Surprise, surprise, MS will likely miss their target shipping date for CE 3, which according to the author is not much of an improvement. There's also some funny CE bashing quotes
"It seems asinine that you have to go to a Start menu on a palm-size device."
"They started out with an operating system that was lame on the desktop, and they're sticking the same thing on a far more underpowered platform". Thanks to john retro for the link.

Bluetooth module from Widcomm. You can read the article

In case people aren't aware, Release 6 of
CodeWarrior Lite is available for downloading from the
Metrowerks FTP site. Unlike Release 5 of CW Lite, this version doesn't have any limits on the size or number of segments in an application. However, it also doesn't include the necessary libraries for building C++ programs, although if you have CW Lite Release 5 (available on the CD-ROM of several books, including
my own) you can use its libraries. Readers of my book should get
updated samples if they want to use CW Lite R6.

Earlier this week WizCom Technologies announced they are developing a scanning Pen module for the Visor. The QuickLink Pen is of particular interest to all Palm OS owners, because connectivity with it would make "pocket OCR" a reality. Read all about it in
this exclusive article by Mike Cane.
