According to
this article at IGN, Microsoft may be working not only on a console box, but also on a pocket gaming device. Rumors give it a 3D chip developed by Toshiba and probably some PDA functions to justify the price point of $300.

Java World is running a 4 part series on Palm programming with Java. The
article begins to show you how to leverage the strengths of the PalmOS and its development environment to build consumer-device applications in Java. I have to ask the Palm Developers out there if they see a future with Java on the Palm platform. What are Java's advantages over C or C++ on a PDA?

review ... This past week (October 19-22) the 1999 PalmSource Convention in Santa Clara, CA has been an exciting time for Palm-goers, as new products were hyped and rumors whispered through the halls. I was lucky to be able to crash the party on Thursday, but there was a mission.

Innogear has details on the MP3 and "six pack" springboards in development. The
Minijam can have up to 64megs of ram for about an hour of high quality mp3 music. The
six pack module sports a 56k modem, voice recorder with an enhanced speaker, vibrating alarm, cellular capable modem, red LED light, and 8 megs of flash memory. They should be available in Q1 of y2k. And if you are sick of waiting for your Visor to arrive there are already a few on

review ... Take your Palm or take Rand McNally? I think I'll opt for the Palm. Have you ever wanted to leave that big map at home, and just use your Palm. HandMap, by Evolutionary Systems, is an amazing mapping program that easily gets you from point A to point B.

If you have a good net connection I highly recommend checking out these two video clips from PalmSource. You can watch a clip for the first Palm TV commercial
here (forward to the 4:30 mark for the commercial). And
David Pogue's speech demo's some excellent new features in development such as Voice recognition, Video mail and a lie detector all on a Palm V. I won't ruin the surprise you'll have to see for yourself ;)

PC World has an
article full of good details. First off, they talk about Palm's first TV commercial. Yes a TV commercial, PDA's are moving into the mainstream. It has a funny story line as well, I can't wait to see it. They also mention Palm's plans for future models. They have Plans for the enterprise, as we heard from PalmSource, and consumer-oriented palm devices for the everyday person.

This is not an "another review" of the Palm V 8meg upgrade, rather this is more of a report for a Palm 8mb Upgrade Exercise that was organized by SPUG last month. I understand that there are tons of Palm V upgrades reviews out there on various sites. We have included pics and even video clips for those who are interested in the upgrading process of a Palm V to 8mb.
