I imagine it is especially exciting, for those still stuck with the 700p on Verizon...

It sure took Verizon long enough to "test" (cripple) the 755 in order to get it ready for market. 6 months or so ?

Oh come on now, you just KNOW that when they finally come out with they will have perfected it.

How the hell is this any different than the 700p aside from no antenna and lacking the full sized SD card slot?

Is it me or does VZW move out new phones at a snails pace? That is unless they have some kind of exclusive release, where they seem to put the energy to it? Or did Sprint have an exclusive period?

IMO, VZW represents the absolute worst control, cripple, & inflexibility issues that make us all dream of more European like wireless world. Just an observation.

Verizon Wireless is a ginormous corporation which is bogged down by a corporate mentality which means it will never be 'nimble.' Phones on its network must strictly comply with its own requirements which were created by the same geniuses who gave us camels when they meant to create racehorses.

VW will eventually have to figure out a way to compete one Google comes online with its open source phones, but once it does --- and it will, it certainly has the network to continue to be a big player.

In the mean time, those of us who have already endured the indignity of whatever AT&T is called this week (I've used cellular phones since my local service was called 'Metrophone' in the Philadelphia area....more than seventeen years ago), and need to be able to connect reliably (ruling out Sprint), will stick to the network that works --- at whatever pace its phones come out.

The treo 755p may keep some verizon users from abandoning the treo but not all. I am looking to replace my T X and consolidate. Since I am a physician, having a phone and medical software at my fingertips is very important (rather than juggling pager, pda, phone). But given Palm's lack of momentum and current problems I am looking at the Blackberry Pearl. Palm used to own the medical application market then lost ground to Windows mobile. But Blackberry has now developed a respectable suite of applications. I only need two real application- epocrates and sanfordguide- both of which are on the blackberry now.
The medical market may not be huge now but physicians tend to buy what their peers are buying and I'm not seeing as many Treos out there. As hospitals and offices switch to electronic medical records, smart phones are going to be more important and may be purchased in larger numbers. My hospital IT has never wanted to support palms (our versamail/outlook solution is a kludge) and this may tip the balance in blackberry's favor. I can't believe how Palm squandered its lead in the market! I've had years of palm from the IIIx and dreading the change.
