Except no App Catalog!

loftwyr @ 8/27/2009 10:03:01 AM # Q
There's no app catalog on my Pre! Why the Hell did Bell Mobility not include it?
PalmPilot Pro -> Palm 3 -> Palm 5 -> Palm 505 -> Palm T3 -> Treo 700p -> Pre (ordered)

Is Canada Bell a GSM network?

MaxLaw843 @ 8/27/2009 3:58:19 PM # Q
Just curious if this is a GSM phone....Makes me hope that T-Mobile can soon have one---or we can get an unlocked GSM version of the Palm Pre here in the US.

Nope, CDMA.

Crushing, isn't it. We GSM peeps are gonna have to wait till October most likely. And even then, there's no guarantee of an unlocked model being compatible with international 3G frequencies.

Kinda low-key launch, eh?

Nuff said.

What?!? Um... it only been highlighted in tons of articles and advertisements. I'm betting $1000 (Can) that you don't live in Canada... you know that ad campaigns targeted at Canadians aren't run in the US, right? Another brain-fart heard from...

You're wrong. We get Canada Dry, Canadian Mist, and RBC ads down here all the time.

There WERE tons of articles pre-launch saying "Here Come Da launch!".

Then total silence.

It's over as soon as it began.

I'm waiting for the cell phone with a beer bottle opener built into the case.

^^ My TX case can do that. Wow, the TX really has an amazing feature set.

Hey Palm! Where's my PDA with Wifi and phone capabilities?

Now here's a launch more worth talking about

StrawMan @ 8/28/2009 2:36:07 AM # Q
Why is there so little discussion about Maemo as an alternative/competing OS on this forum?
http://maemo.nokia.com/

For those who still prefer the concept of a Palm TX type device to a not-quite-completely-dumb-phone (like WebOS, iPhone etc), Maemo gives you the mobile power of a Linx-based multi-tasking OS. And the new N900/Maemo5 takes a nice step forward (even if the screen site (not resolution) is reduced vs N810).

I think the discussion of this Nokia-ground-breaking device is just beginning to warm up. It'll get HERE soon.

Looks sweet but do you think there will be an emulator so that we can run Blazer?

I have looked at Nokia's Maemo devices, but at the price they wanted, I really would have expected them to have include a cell radio and had a real smart-phone from the beginning. Bottom line for me was that it was only a sideways move from my TX and I'd still need a separate phone. So why spend more money and still not have significantly upgraded and then have to try to replace all my Palm apps on top of it?

But now they're coming out with the N900, so yes, there is something to talk about/look at. But this is "Palm"Infocenter, so even though a few iPhone fanboys hang around here in a desperate attempt to validate their choice of phones, the discussions will probably tend to center around Palm devices and OS's.

We're not discussing it because Americans figured out what Nokia is all about. Nokia is one of those rare companies that just bursts out of the seams with European pride. People over there love Nokia because they love buying European things.

Over here, we've got iPhones, red meat, and real football. We don't care about some nancyboy European MID. The rest of the world is waiting for the Apple iPad, anyway.

But football is for weaklings compared to rugby. Football players hide behind pads and helmets...

Indeed, QF. American football is to rugby, as ballet is to boxing.

(I was gonna link some of the more hideously crunching NRL vids, but I wouldn't inflict the typical choice of "music" that accompanies them on anybody. Ugh. When did honest-to-God rock stop being the default music of sports?)
