Refurbished Handhelds Now Available from Palm

Posted By: Ed on Thursday, January 04, 2001 8:18:06 AM

In a follow-up to the article we ran last month on refurbished devices being sold by Palm Inc., their website actually now has a few for sale. They are offering the Palm III for $100 and the Palm VII for $280. Neither are available new.

They are sold with a 90-day warranty and come in a white box with all the usual stuff: manual, CD, cradle, etc. They also come with Palm's reassurance that "Reconditioned handhelds are as good as new, cosmetically and electronically."

If you have been carefully watching the page we referred to in the first article waiting for some refurbished Palms to appear, you've apparently been wasting your time. That page hasn't changed and still simply says, "We are not currently offering any refurbished Palm handhelds at this time." Clearly this is no longer correct and you should move your bookmark to the new page.

 Reconditioned - No Problem

I've had four reconditioned Palms and have had no problems at all with them. I believe the screens have all been new. The digitizers looked perfect in any case. I've had more problems with new Palms than reconditioned.
two cents

Where did you buy these reconditioned Palms?

I've been through 2 reconditioned Palms myself,
a III and my current Vx. My old Vx went on the fritz and it's flash ram was corrupted, the other I got when I broke the glass on my old III.

When you send a palm in to support for repair they give you the option of waiting for your unit to be repaired or you can have a refurb sent to you.

Same for me. Bad power switch. Dropped one. One just went mad, etc.

It would be nicer if they were selling reconditioned 8 meg devices instead of 2 meg ones.

Uhh, but Palm is not stuipd. Why would you buy a new (read overpriced) palm when you could buy a refirb for much less? Palm has no desire to cut into their own market.

I am on my fourth treo 700w from sprint and one store said it was new and another store said it was reconditioned with over 7 million minutes. How can I check this on my own? I have about given up on this phone.

Hey, that's only 13 solid years of use - like new!
