Posted By: Ed on Thursday, January 18, 2001 6:34:07 AM

GeoDiscovery has finally released their Geode GPS Springboard for the Visor. It integrates interactive maps and travel guides with GPS technology and has already won several awards.

The Geode comes with 4 MB of flash memory, pre-loaded with GeoView Mobile software, a World Map Pack featuring boundaries for world-wide countries and major international cities, and a U.S. Map Pack with major highways, roads, lakes and rivers. It sells for $290.

The Geode includes several unique features such as the SiRF Star II GPS receiver with SnapLock, FoliageLock, and Wide Area Augmentation System to improve accuracy and sensitivity; digital compass, 2 MultiMediaCard slots for future expansion capable of holding up to 64 MB of maps, content and Palm OS files and internal flash memory loaded with applications and world maps.

The Geode was announced back in June and since then, over 8,000 prospective customers have registered to receive information and updates about it.

GeoDiscovery is offering a special discount of $30 off the retail price to Utah residents who place orders for the Geode GPS module before February 1. Readers who would like to receive this discount should order their units by calling 800/861-2972.

Apparently the ship date has been pushed to Feb 1 due to Geodiscovery not being happy with their first production units.

Why do Utah residents get $30 off? What did they do to earn it other than being born in the right place? :-)
