Create Palm Databases with a Web Browser

Posted By: Ed on Thursday, March 29, 2001 11:48:58 PM

Pendragon Software has launched Pendragon Internet Forms, a Web-based development platform for building database applications for Palm OS devices. Based on the company’s Pendragon Forms development tool, the new platform lets users design, deploy, and manage mobile database applications via a Web browser. Pricing depends on number of users; a 100-user license is $5,000.

An integrated synchronization server enables secure synchronization to Palm devices over wireless TCP/IP connections, as well as from remotely connected desktop and laptop computers. Pendragon Internet Forms applications are also accessible via micro-browsers on other mobile platforms.

Server software will be available for Windows NT and Windows 2000.  It requires Microsoft Access 2000 (for MSDE) or Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 or higher.

In addition to selling server software, they will host customer applications on their own servers as a mobile Application Service Provider (ASP) for a monthly fee. This service is targeted towards small organizations that need to collect and manage data from mobile workers. It starts at $50 per month plus $10 per month per user.
