Global Internet Access for Palms

Posted By: Press Release on Thursday, May 17, 2001 7:09:03 AM

MaGlobe, which offers a global Internet access service for travelers, has released AutoDialer for PalmOS. It allows users to automatically access the Web from over 5 thousand locations worldwide. For example, instead of being in Europe and forced to dial over the Atlantic to access an ISP, MaGlobe allows the user to dial into a local access number. MaGlobe only needs to hear a dial tone and the software will autodial the local number for the city the traveler is in.

The service is available in the following countries: Australia, Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Czech Republic, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, India, Italy, Kenya, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Pakistan, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States of America

MaGlobe pre-paid Internet cards cost:

  • MaGlobe Traveler - $15 = 6 hours in USA or 3 hours in other countries
  • MaGlobe Traveler Plus - $30 = 12 hours in USA or 6 hours in other countries
  • MaGlobe Globetrotter - $50 = 25 hours in USA or 12.5 hours in other countries
  • MaGlobe Globetrotter Plus - $100 = 50 hours in USA or 25 hours in other countries
  • MaGlobe Enterprise - $250 = 125 hours in USA or 62.5 hours in other countries
  • MaGlobe Enterprise Plus - US$ 500 = 250 hours in USA or 125 hours in other countries
The card is valid for one year from the date of purchase. The AutoDialer for PalmOS application is naturally free.

AT&T Global Interet Access (formerly IBM Global) also provides worldwide internet access starting at just $6.

They offer 1-800 access and global roaming, but there are surcharges for using a number outside of your "base" country.

They give you a dialer application for your Palm with ALL the phone numbers, and you receive regular updates with new phone numbers.

UUnet also has a global roaming service
with a wider selection of access points:

though I don't know if they have explicit
Palm support, it should work if manually
configured - and their rates are a bit more
expensive.

Regarding the AT&T Global Interet Access URL. It only offers to sign me up and then only with an Offer Code.

RE: Other Global Access Providers; Bad URL

Sorry about the URL. Try this:

main site:
http://www.attglobal.com

service plans:
http://services.attglobal.net/svc?type=APS&p185=HELP&p29=ATTWEB&p201=ATT

Ed, could you fix my post to have these URLs instead of my original one?

Thanks,

The most endearing feature abount MaGlobe is that it is a Prepaid service, without any annual commitments, monthly fees or undisclosed surcharges.

Besides, it seems to be only one that offers instant online activation, realtime online accounts status and auto-renewal.

Nobody appears to have mentioned the
I Pass service which offers approximately
11,000 POP numbers worldwide.

Where can you find information on I Pass??

And does it offer a Palm based dialer?

iPass does not have a service for individual users, you have to approach an ISP or one of their agents, who take their own sweet time for activation of the account. It is not a flexible service and is aimed only for the super large corporate users.
