With the introduction of the AppForge Software Development Kit (SDK) and AppForge 2.0, Microsoft Visual Studio developers can write applications and ActiveX controls that work on PalmOS and Pocket PC devices. The AppForge SDK allows developers to use Microsoft Visual C++ to create applications and ActiveX controls a variety of devices using a single code base. AppForge 2.0 lets the millions of Visual Basic developers create applications for both software platforms. "We are excited because AppForge 2.0 allows enterprise developers to create smart applications that target multiple mobile and wireless devices simultaneously" says Doug Armstrong, CEO of AppForge, Inc. "This creates an exciting opportunity for original equipment device manufacturers who would like to host enterprise-class applications on their devices." AppForge 2.0 will be available for general release in August, 2001. AppForge Professional Edition 2.0 will be available in three varieties - Professional Edition (Palm OS Platform) for $700, Professional Edition (Pocket PC Platform) for $900, and Professional Edition (Palm and Pocket PC platforms) for $1,300. For 30 days after version 2.0 begins shipping, current AppForge Professional customers will be able to upgrade to the Professional Edition (Palm Platform) for $300 and receive the Pocket PC platform pack free of charge. Customers, who purchase AppForge Professional after June 1 will receive a free upgrade to the version 2.0 of AppForge Professional (Palm and Pocket PC platforms).

How well does it work? I'd like to see something a little faster than NSBasic and Satellite Forms. RE: Has anyone actually used this?I.M. Anonymous @ 6/21/2001 2:20:10 PM #
Take a look at CASL, www.caslsoft.com It is faster and cheaper then both NS Basic and Satellite Forms. Overall a very nice programming environment.

$1300 huh? I think they could charge more if the tried. RE: Yikes!I.M. Anonymous @ 6/21/2001 9:07:08 PM #
It is REALLY stupid to charge so much for software. They would be macking tons more money of the program if they charged like $100 for it, imean I develop for websites and the software for that is quite expensive with most peices of software in the $500 range but I have at least 5 of those, none of which i have paid a dime for because of the work people have put into cracking them. people put much less work into cracking apps costing <100 than they do the really expensive ones which just makes it smarter for the software companies to lower there prices RE: Yikes!
They offer a Personal Edition for only $20. It didn't make it into this article because it isn't cross platform. It is the Palm version only.

The application works very well. My only complaint is data synchronization.
