SilverScreen 2.1 Offers VFS Support
PocketSensei has released SilverScreen 2.1, an update to their application launcher. It now supports VFS expansion cards. Both the Palm m500 series and all Clié models will be able to access applications stored on expansion cards. All Clié models will be able to launch applications directly from Memory Sticks without having to wait for OS 4.0. All users will be able to categorize applications. SilverScreen 2.1 is available now for $20.
Unlike the Palm OS 4.0 application launcher, which makes users switch to a special "Card" category, SilverScreen displays all applications immediately and in the same view as applications in RAM. A small indicator in the lower right hand corner of the icon will distinguish external applications from those found on the device.
There is no separate program required to move applications between RAM and the expansion card and there is no waiting for a copy dialog. To move file, drag it to a toolbox folder and tap "move" or "copy."
Bohm S. Kim, President of PocketSensei, said, "We believe we have implemented VFS support in a manner consistent with the SilverScreen philosophy--fast, easy and elegant."
PocketSensei has tested SilverScreen 2.1 with both Palm and Sony devices. Mr. Kim said, "We don't yet certify SilverScreen for use with the HandEra and other external media. If they have exactly followed the Palm way of implementing VFS, SilverScreen 'should' work. We will be investigating compatibility with the many external media in the coming months."
