Rumor: Palm's Hardware Upgrade Program (Updated)
Palm will soon begin a program in which old, broken, Palm-branded handhelds can be exchanged for discounts on new ones, according to an anonymous source who says he's a Palm Tech Support Agent. In order to get the discount, owners should call Palm Tech Support and describe to them the broken handheld. They will supply a promo code that will allow the customer to purchase any Palm handheld that does not have an expansion slot at a discount. The broken handheld does not have to be returned to Palm.
Update: Palm has posted the official page for this program onto their site.
Using this discount, the m100 will be $84.50, the m105 will be $130, the IIIc is $170, the VIIx is $150., and the Vx is $200. That's a roughly 45% discount off the price of the IIIc and 33% off the Vx. There are no discounts for the m125, m500, or m505.
According to the source, this program was supposed to start yesterday but has been held up for technical reasons. it should begin soon. It will last until December 15 and is available only to customers in the United States. It is not good for any handheld still under warranty.
