Far and way the biggest news of the week was Sony announcement of the T415. Sony will also release a digital camera Memory Stick at the same time. The company released their quarterly financial results, too. Palm Inc. has created some new services for developers and its deal with Be Inc. might be at risk. In new hardware, Red-M announced a Bluetooth Springboard module and there will be 128 MB SD cards from Kingston soon. Right after the T415 was announced, there was a rumor of a color version in December. In the Forums, there's even more debate on the T415. In the Market Place, there's a m505, an original Visor, and lots of other handheld-related gear available for sale.

Hal is a great guy, I hope he is OK. RE: OT - The demise of PalmStationI.M. Anonymous @ 10/28/2001 3:08:47 PM #
I'll bet Palm has sued him or has threatened him with legal action. He probably thinks it's just safest to let Palmstation die off quietly. But in a way, he's responsible for Palm losing MILLIONS, due to his part in showing everyone Palm's m700 and m505 (wrecking sales of the VIIx and Vx). I'm not surprised to see PalmStation killed off. We do live in a free market economy. Palm is TOO SLOW to release new products, I am on my second Palm and like their size and use, BUT even I have begun to consider others. News is news and if someone broke the story and let the palm out of the glove then so be it. RE: OT - The demise of PalmStationI.M. Anonymous @ 10/28/2001 4:29:02 PM #
NO! Hal is just probably busy with his REAL full-time LIFE - His job and other hobbies are more important. He probably got bored with the site as just doesn't put the time into it anymore. I can't say I blame him. The guys that run these sites put a lot of work in them for not much (if any) monetary payback. What they do get as payback is a lot of bitchin from all the users. Who needs it? RE: OT - The demise of PalmStationI.M. Anonymous @ 10/28/2001 4:29:41 PM #
Perhaps, but don't journalists have a responsibility to not print articles using illegal (ever heard of an NDA?) information that they know will be damaging to a company? Damage Palm and you also damage the industry, including sites like Palmstation. RE: OT - The demise of PalmStationI.M. Anonymous @ 10/28/2001 4:33:00 PM #
Palmstation didn't kill Palm. Palm, Inc. is killing Palm. Per M. Mace - They announced those new products before Palmstation ever did. RE: OT - The demise of PalmStationI.M. Anonymous @ 10/28/2001 4:51:16 PM #
Show me the quote where Mace said that. He didn't. All he has said is that Palm made a mistake by announcing the m505 before they could ship it in volume. RE: OT - The demise of PalmStationI.M. Anonymous @ 10/28/2001 5:01:24 PM #
Palm's own CEO admitted they made an error (sure if I had to report to shareholders) I would hope admission was on my side. They couldn't deliver, over promised, and found their pants around their ankles. So what next. Well their about to do it again. Have they noticed their competitors on the hardware side, Handspring & SONY aren't waitin for the big show in March. No they are announcing new products now. WHY? Because they need to keep the market fresh and hot. No body wants stale bread, except the birds. RE: OT - The demise of PalmStationI.M. Anonymous @ 10/28/2001 5:03:53 PM #
Anyone here know the real story behind what happened to Palmstation? RE: OT - The demise of PalmStationI.M. Anonymous @ 10/28/2001 5:39:19 PM #
Rumor has it that Hal was kidnapped by Palm, Inc. and has been held hostage at their Santa Clara HQ for the last few months. The rumor also said that Palm found a new Ipaq, Journada, and 10,000 shares of MSFT stock certificates on him when he was abducted. I hope he's OK. RE: OT - The demise of PalmStationI.M. PalmStation got too boring for me - too much from the HandEra and Sony crowd. Nice products, but their supporters are tiresome. RE: OT - The demise of PalmStationI.M. Anonymous @ 10/29/2001 4:36:19 PM #
I really liked PalmStation. So much so that in the early days I pushed the limits on my various NDA's to feed Hal and James a tidbit or two to help keep things interesting. What eventually killed PalmStation - at least for me - was the juvenile antics of the trolls, which Hal seemed unable to control. The noise eventually overwhelmed the info, and I moved on. I expect many others did as well, gutting the contribution base. RE: OT - The demise of PalmStationI.M. Anonymous @ 10/29/2001 5:58:33 PM #
Don't blame the PPC Trolls. They keep things interesting. Lack of Fresh content kills sites. RE: OT - The demise of PalmStationI.M. Anonymous @ 10/29/2001 7:06:49 PM #
Don't tell me, let me guess. You're a PPC Troll.
I wasn't into following all of the Palm related news until I discovered this site as a channel on AvantGo. Since then, this site has become one of my regularly visited bookmarks. I never knew about PalmStation or how big it was until I read the above thread. I think PIC is currently the best Palm news site on the internet. I don't think anyone can disagree with that. Wonderful job PIC editors! Scott RE: OT - The rise of Palm Infocenter
I agree with Skoty... I also found PIC on AvantGo, and it is the best Information Center for Palm-related news! I live in Argentina, and Palm-related news here are few and hard to find, although the number of Palm users is growing constantly... Even when only Palm sells their stuff here: no Handspring or Sony handhelds... RE: OT - The rise of Palm InfocenterI.M. Anonymous @ 10/29/2001 2:27:01 PM #
Please refrain from using the term "PIC" when referring to Palm Infocenter. PIC is a registered trademark of PIC International Group PLC. Is this the same site that broke stories on the Palm m505 and i705 earlier this year? Suddenly PalmStation is completely dead. Emails to Hal remain unanswered and there hasn't been a real story or any discussion there in months. Has Palm managed to get revenge on Hal for publishing their insider info?
