![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Rumor: T615C Available January 22 in Hong KongPosted By: Ed on Wednesday, January 09, 2002 11:10:17 AM
According to a reader report, employees in the Sony Pro Shop in Hong Kong are saying the PEG-T615C will be announced there on January 19 and be available around January 22. There will be no blue or black casing for the T615C, only silver. In Hong Kong, the price will be HK$3280 (about US$420). Update: Sony has announced that it is taking preorders for the T415 in Hong Kong and Singapore. It comes with a leather case, 32MB Memory Stick, and a free backpack as souvenir. It will also come with Chinese add-on software for the English Palm OS in order to let users read and write Chinese. It's always risky drawing too many conclusions from announcements made in other countries. Sony handles different geographical areas as different markets. What they do in one market isn't necessarily what they will do in another. The T615C is the U.S. version of the T600C, which is already available in Japan. The T600C has a 320 by 320 pixel TFT screen that can display 16-bit color. It also has 16 MB of RAM and runs OS 4.1. The T615C is expected to be pretty much the same. The Sony T615C appears in Best Buy's inventory system, which says Sony's suggested retail price is $415. Related Information: More Stories Like This... So, there is a sign posted in a store saying there will be an announcement on January 19th stating that it will be available around January 22nd.
Sounds like the old " I heard this from a friend of a friend who knows somebody who..." Why put up a poster announcing an announcement? RE: Big DealI.M. Anonymous @ 1/9/2002 11:33:37 AM #
I want to clarify this:
The poster is saying T615 will be available soon. And the date (19 and 22 Jan) was told by the Pro Shop Staff. It is subjected to be changed.

I've been going back and forth over my next handheld purchase - I'm tempted by the new (unmentionable) devices, but was hoping that the Sony would keep me in the Palm camp. It looks SOOO good and small and all that, but the battery life reports are making me less excited about it. Reports suggest about 3 hours of use, and that's just too little. Maybe I have high expectations coming from using a mono device for so long, but I need at least 8 hours of use - one full day of work without recharging, or at least a week of light work. While I was all set to buy the Sony, at this point I'm leaning toward a ... well, you know. Would somebody convince me to stick with Palm OS? Please!
Maybe N760 or stick to T615I.M. Anonymous @ 1/9/2002 2:03:20 PM #
According to Sony's Japanese site, the minutes of use for T615 could be 12 days on 30 minute a day use. That would equal to about 6 hours. Sony might be a little optimistic, but then I somehow think it is attainable if you don't put it in Full Brightness and Full Power for your entire use. (Who would?)
Anyway, If you really need to do it stick to N760 or a used N610. It has far better form factor than PPC and great battery life as well. I am not a Sony Salesperson but I think their products are among the highest quality. I found that true for most Japanese products anyway (except banks of course) RE: Tough choice...or is it?I.M. Anonymous @ 1/9/2002 2:25:10 PM #
With the release of the HP-565 (rated at 14 hours of mp3 playback with the screen off) life has become more difficult for 710/760 users.
Back in June no one could touch the N710c's 11 hours battery life; that's no longer the case. Just remember that the last generation of ppc's were all rated greater then 8 hours and rarely lasted longer than 5 hours. There's a bit of fuzzy math here..... A bird in hand is better than two in the bush. markpmc RE: Tough choice...or is it?I.M. Anonymous @ 1/9/2002 6:03:05 PM #
Thanks. That may be what I needed :)

Judging from all the price slashing going on I would say this will be BIG seller.. NOT! Gimme a break! How bout a NEW OS? Instead of pretty cases????
Please Sony give up the cheese and buy the floundering Palm empire and give us a fresh OS, or something dammit besides a vibrator and a flashing light! RE: Wow!! Who cares!I.M. Anonymous @ 1/9/2002 4:53:43 PM #
Please go take a tranquilizer (preferably an overdose!) so other people can calmly discuss this.
RE: Wow!! Who cares!
I agree with the first poster. Nothing about this device is wowing or innovative. Its turning into the same Palm rehash market. Someone does something, I do it too, except I put my name on it and add a pretty case.

so are Visor Edge (palm in a thinner case) or Treo (PDA with a phone) innovative !? .... hmm ...... sounds like a rehash to me ...
RE: Wow!! Who cares!
I don't give a flying eff *how* many people agree with the idiot who started this thread. This news item is obviously for people who are *interested* in the T615C, not the morons who aren't. Go elsewhere if you are not interested. There are plenty of other stories.
RE: Wow!! Who cares!I.M. Anonymous @ 1/9/2002 6:23:21 PM #
You know, Sony has been announcing so many PDA's last year and most likely this one. Why is that? They should get ready for ideas for OS5 like palm and handspring are doing! I think having many pdas on their production list is not going to profit them more knowing alot of them are small improvements from the last version replacement. You want to flame me for my thoughts? go ahead.

Rehashing?!!! I don't think anyone has put the quality of the Clie' in the form factor of my old Vx before.
I love my Clie' and I am really looking forward to carrying it comfortably in my front pocket again. RE: Wow!! Who cares!
"They should get ready for ideas for OS5 like palm and handspring are doing! "
I'm sure they are. It doesn't mean they have to stop making new models for the current configs. More options is always good. Not saying no support is good, but when a consumer goes to purchase a device, it doesn't hurt to have many options. "Getting ready" doesn't have to mean release nothing until the fall. RE: Wow!! Who cares!I.M. Anonymous @ 1/9/2002 6:45:27 PM #
Umm gee others are tired of nothing but a rehash of old technology as well? I would love to support Palm again if they actually did something inovative instead of screwing people for a $30-40 upgrade that does not give much more than what they had before. I think Sony makes a great handheld, Palm is the one holding them and the rest of the hardware vendors back. Its time for Palm to wow everyone... oh I see it the new 715 a Palm VII only smaller! Wow neato!
RE: Wow!! Who cares!I.M. Anonymous @ 1/9/2002 7:02:09 PM #
Oh Mr Cane please tell me list to the features that Palm has released for their OS in the past year that are inovative? Ummm nothing!
RE: For those who think T600/T615 is nothingI.M. Anonymous @ 1/9/2002 9:33:54 PM #
little/no innovation? Please take a look at T615 spec.
FM Speaker: any palmOS device has it? Remote Controller: same as above slim design: remember 320x320 is 4X more pixels than 160x160, not 2X. Any other brand can fit this into such a slim case? need me continue? or you think m500 has even more fuctions than Vx and Visor Neo is much better than deluxe. And for those who think Sony has too many new models, please think if plam has the ability to create that many models first. Oh yeah, handspring has models like Neo and Pro and Palm just created 2 new m505 with different color! what a joke after all RE: Wow!! Who cares!I.M. Anonymous @ 1/10/2002 12:53:24 AM #
it's funny ........ for the guy who's sig is
"When you have a Clie shoved up your mouth, you can only talk in vowels." 1) you never "shove" a PDA "up your mouth" RE: Wow!! Who cares!I.M. Anonymous @ 1/10/2002 3:12:51 AM #
The T615 is just Sony's version of the m505, with a few more little gimmicks (and it is still not generally available over 6 months after Palm's pioneering effort). Big deal.
If this is what you call 'innovation', then I think that your Japanese to English dictionary should be replaced. RE: Wow!! Who cares!martopiggus @ 1/10/2002 4:37:35 AM #
I think some pseudo-patriotic jerks slammed Sony just for the sack of Sony being a Japanese company and they are pissed off because Palm did nothing in the past year to respond to Sony's waves after waves of new devices. Come on people, think global! Sony responded to what Palm users WANT and they delivered, what's wrong with that? You can still stick with the pathetic (so in my opinion) m505 but there is nothing wrong for people who think T6xx series is great. Competition means more innovation and more money sucked in, which also benefits the Palm market to fight for PPC. If Sony didn't do anything last year it sure would not be an exciting year for Palm fans and generated a lot of noise against the roll out of PPC2002.
Come on guys, grow up! Roll up your sleeves and get to work! RE: Wow!! Who cares!I.M. Anonymous @ 1/10/2002 11:05:31 PM #
>If this is what you call 'innovation', then I think
>that your Japanese to English dictionary should be >replaced. It's not the problem with the dictionary. It's the problem that you don't get the sense of technology quite right. RE: Wow!! Who cares!I.M. Anonymous @ 1/11/2002 4:24:38 AM #
Actually, Newton's theory of gravity is not the best example for you to use. You see, there was a guy called 'Einstein' who had to modify the theory a somewhat.
Your display of ignorance is, however, appreciated. RE: Wow!! Who cares!I.M. Anonymous @ 1/11/2002 5:53:16 AM #
Duh! General relativity changed our understanding of gravitation, like, not much, except that it bends light. What a rude, show-off dumbass. Read a book. :)
Weird! These guys all slamming the sony line, when objectively they are clearly the leaders in handheld innovation, (although all the palm licensees seem to be busy guys nowadays, Handspring, HandEra, even Palm themselves, with the Be purchase). Then I read martopiggus, and horrified, I realized he might be right. I remembered that a few educationally disadvantaged Americans really can be racist - even about gadgets! Well, it's their loss. ;) BTW: "...only talk in vowels". It's a reference to the opening scene of Fight Club, when Narrator has a gun shoved in his mouth by Tyler. Except, the movie scene was funny, while the clie comment sounded kinda retarded. :) :) :) RE: Wow!! Who cares!
ok, 4:24:38 AM, then I really hope Palm etc can be Einstein. but your example is not good enough.
Palm etc didn't/can't do anything like Einstein did. what a great example supporting me. thanks

Well if this doesn't confirm the 'rumor' I don't know what does! Straight from the horse's mouth so to speak! :D

Sorry for my poor English, making you misunderstand my meaning.
