Blue Nomad has released the first update to BackupBuddy in over a year. With version 1.5, it can backup the entire contents of VFS expansion cards during each HotSync, in addition to its regular function of backing up the handheld's internal memory. It also includes a copy of BackupBuddyVFS, which allows the handheld's internal memory to be backed up to a memory card. It's a free upgrade or $30 for new users. There is only a version of 1.5 for Windows users. The latest Macintosh version is 1.01. Other features of BackupBuddy include virus scanning, copying the backup directory to a network file server, beaming or deleting any file, automatically excluding AvantGo files, backing up apps put in ROM (JackFlash, FlashBuilder, and FlashPro supported), and more. A function that has been dropped from the application is the ability to store backups on Driveway.com, a free online store site. This actually came to an end a long time ago when Driveway.com and most of its competitors shut down as part of the Dot-Com bust. A third-party backup application is necessary in order to save the entire contents of RAM. Palm's Desktop application does not get everything. Thanks to Ian Davenport for the tip. -Ed Related Information:

Great product, especially with the encryption option, but still needs backup compression support IMO.

At least it supports encryption. Compression would be nice, too.

If it would support compression, then I'd switch to it. Until then, I will have to stick to JBBackup. Unfortunately, however, it doesn't support encryption :( I guess it comes down to which is more important to you...

I wish this would have come out a couple weeks ago. I lost my SD card last week. I hope the person that found has no idea how to get the information out of the pdbs in the backup dir.

The BackupBuddy version that has the VFS backup support is CardSync. It works, yes, but it is still buggy as it cannot backup all of my MMC card onto my desktop yet. I've submitted a bug report, but have yet to hear anything still.

Sorry about your bad experience but BB has saved my a** numerous times. I have only good things to report. I have not yet tried the new version, but I think I'll wait to see how the CardSync function works after hearing reports of bugs on the Clie Yahoo User group page.
RE: Backupbuddy SUCKS! Expensive and it SUCKS!
I have to disagree. There have been numerous times that I have had horrible hard resets as the result of beta tests or evil apps, and I have been saved over and over by BB. Everytime I've needed it, it's worked. With BB, you put your friend in the cradle, hit the button, and after a small eternity... Viola! Everything is put back in place as if nothing ever happened. Even your settings, preferences, and hacks are set just the way you like them. Can't ask for a better piece of equipment.
I have one concern. I purchased BB thru palmslostorstolen.com about a year ago, and I didn't know about any registration process. Now I'm wondering whether I'm going to get this upgrade. Quik_Fix RE: Backupbuddy SUCKS! Expensive and it SUCKS!I.M. Anonymous @ 1/15/2002 3:29:22 AM #
contact bluenomad.com with your pdalostorstolen purchase info/policy# and you can get the upgrade..

I've only paid for two Palm programs--BackupBuddy and iSilo. Both were well worth the money. BackupBuddy has saved my butt more times than I can count, especially during the dark days of the DRAM issue.

Why the hell am I going to pay $30.00US for a backup tool that I can get a competing product for half the price?? There is nothing magical about backing up the files to the removable card. Tools like myWorkbench and mcFile can backup the entire palm to the sd/mmc card for $15.00 and you a file manager included.
Sorry but backupBuddy is not my buddy.

I think BB would great if I could get my M505 to just Hotsync. I tried everything to get my palm to hotsync. Finally giving up and calling tech suport, and having a new palm sent. I thought I would try the workaround with the shortcut.1 thing in memopad. I was so excited! IT WORKED! But it was too late, I had already hard reset my palm, and installed and uninstalled and installed my palm desktop. Everything was lost. But to be excited with my new palm comming in the mail. Only two days left. I put the new palm on the cradle to charge it while I went to work. Excitment filled the air at work so much that I couldn't wait to get home, I was going to have a new palm. One that had the usb problem fixed, so the tech woman said. Even though my old palm worked now, I didn't care...it was new. Turning my palm on for the first time, I recieved the good welcome screen. And the test. You probably already know what happend. My old palm works, and the new one doesnt. Maybe my old palm will keep working. If I had BB at least I would have had so much to of lost. I think this story might of been off subject. But I was just wandering if anyone has had the same problem.
