Austrian film director David Ruhm has won the bronze Clio award award for his latest film production "Nur Tiere Tragen Pelz" ("Only Animals Wear Fur"). He credits some of his success to iambic’s Action Names Datebook, which he has been using for years to schedule and coordinate filming and production, manage his demanding appointment schedule, and handle the multiple tasks that can plague a filmmaker so high in demand. Mr. Ruhm keep track of his schedule, finance management, and worldwide film castings on a Palm m505. He also writes occasionally for Palmtop-Pro Magazine. Mr. Ruhm said, "My success is partially due to iambic’s Action Names Datebook, which is truly the best contact manager and organizer I have ever used. I have been using the program to plan my films, coordinate castings worldwide, schedule meetings with studios and investors, and, of course, to keep my contacts up-to-date and easily available wherever I go. For a film director with such an intense schedule, using Action Names Datebook is like having a personal assistant at my side, any time of day." David Ruhm has long been recognized in the European cinematography arena as an innovative filmmaker, and is now gaining recognition in the U.S. for his meticulous work and originality. His latest movie, "Nur Tiere Tragen Pelz" can be viewed online thanks to Palmtop-Pro Magazine. In response to some of the claims made in the comments, this article is not an advertisement nor were we paid to post it. It was put together from a press release. While it's not of the usual caliber of PIC news articles, we decided it would be better to have something posted on a slow holiday weekend rather than nothing. -Ryan

advertorials! RE: this just inI.M. Anonymous @ 5/25/2002 10:44:50 AM #
Big Whoopdeedoo. I'm so famous that I wish to remain anonymous. I use Datebk5. Why doesn't PIC do an interview on me? RE: this just inI.M. Anonymous @ 5/25/2002 12:44:55 PM #
In fact, the more I think about it Ed, this story is just pathetic. You do an excellent job and I have no idea why you thought this was worth a whole article - perhaps feeling guilty about all the negative Iambic coverage generated here (well, you shouldn't feel guilty! consensus on PIC generated coverage, not you, a testament to why PIC is so great)? Please remove this news story. Because it is *not* news. RE: this just inI.M. Anonymous @ 5/25/2002 10:32:27 PM #
What kind of BS story is this???? This is an effort to restore Iambic credability and it reeks of endorsement. I thought you were better than this Ed. Im off to PDABuzz. RE: this just inI.M. Anonymous @ 5/26/2002 8:01:32 AM #
My god! Why are you all so intolerant and frustrated. Full of hate, my god it's only a Palm not a religion, weapon, political party, ... RE: this just inI.M. Anonymous @ 5/28/2002 10:05:46 AM #
I would dislike this article no matter what had happened recently with Iambic. It's an advertisement, not an article, and makes it look like PIC is just kissing up to Iambic. No self-respecting newspaper would have posted an article like this one. RE: this just in

You guy's conspiracy theories are always fun but I can sum up the purpose for this article in three words: slow news day. It was the Sunday before Memorial Day after all.

First, the Clio awards are given for advertising, not film. Second, if you search at the Clio Award website, this guy isn't listed anywhere. (http://www.clioawards.com/html/main.isx) Perhaps this is simply further evidence of Iambic's intellectually challenged marketing program... RE: I don't think so...I.M. Anonymous @ 5/25/2002 10:47:58 AM #
I'd also mention that there are several hundred Clios given out a year, so even if he somehow did win one, this is pretty lame news. RE: I don't think so...I.M. Anonymous @ 5/25/2002 11:29:18 AM #
David Ruhm doesn't show up in IMDB. However, there's a directory named David Ruhm who's listed on the Cannes web site for having entered two films in 1991 and 1992, and another film BANKROLL made it to the festivals in 1996. Wasn't able to find any work he's done after that. Very strange way to advertise Action Names. But, maybe Ruhm is the right choice as a spokesmodel. Given that he's been reduced to doing commercials, I bet desperate searches through his contact list are very important to him. :-) "Just the facts, ma'am." RE: I don't think so...I.M. Anonymous @ 5/25/2002 11:33:32 AM #
If you follow the link on the page, you'll see a page in German, but which indicates that he did win a CLIO for advertising. However, I think this hardly classifies as news. Ed, what happened here? Feeling bad about all of the dakebk5.com garbage? This should never have made the front page.... RE: I don't think so...I.M. Anonymous @ 5/25/2002 12:33:34 PM #
That German page may well claim he won a Clio. I could also put up a page advertising my Pulitzers for commentary on PIC but what would that convince you of? I contradict the mainstreamI.M. Anonymous @ 5/25/2002 2:16:51 PM #
The comment that the gentleman David Ruehm is not listed as a CLIO winner 2002 can be easily proven as wrong: I made a search as well - the result: Year: 2002 Contrary to the mainstream - find the story very interesting and the movies very funny indeed. So please see the story calm as what it is, as a good free advertisement of the international Palm idea – and appreciate the fact that another stone proves the competence of Palms in the industry My two sober cents RE: I don't think so...
well....apparently that's a typo for the name...... Ed typed "David Ruhm" instead of "David Ruehm"..... so everything in this thread is just a misuderstanding................ Alan ---- Read your manuals before you ask!! RE: I don't think so...I.M. Anonymous @ 5/29/2002 6:36:40 PM #
Hi all. Quite funny, how many comments were posted to the plain iambic news on action names & the clio award. Let me first straight some things out: I am really using Action Names (although the Clio award is due to the quality of our commercial and not to any whatsoever program I use). Action Names is just a helpful program for me, as DateBK 5 might be for other users. If anybody wants to check if I really got the award, search under 'David Ruehm' since my name is actually written with an umlaut (Rühm) -) Cheers, David

LOL ... LOL ... LOL ... LOL Mr. I just cant' stop laughing at how stoopid this sounds. It sounds like such a fake testimonial ... from someone who no one has ever heard of. So what he uses AN????? SO WHAT??? Give me a break!!!! This is just free advertising for Iambic for a 'news' item that's not even worthy. RE: iambic AgainI.M. Anonymous @ 5/25/2002 12:26:57 PM #
"My success is partially due to iambic’s Action Names Datebook, which is truly the best contact manager and organizer I have ever used." So he is a world authority on which is the best schedule organiser now? It's just one man's experience - out of hundreds of thousands out there. It would be interesting if he was an expert software tester whose tested each Palm app in depth or he was someone of significance but WHO CARES WHAT HE THINKS and how are we to know whether his views are based on experiencing each datebook app? P.S. I use AN myself. Palmtop-Pro answersI.M. Anonymous @ 5/25/2002 2:32:35 PM #
In fact David Rühm has tested software for our magazine on a regular basis and is renown as a seasoned expert in utility software and money programs. We have indeed proudly published in nearly every Palmtop-Pro magazine in the last years articles from David. David is rated as a very competent expert here in Europe on professional Palm and Psion software – besides having completed a bulkload of extremely successful films for cinemas in Europe. Besides doing commercials for non profit organisations as like in that very case for the protection of wild animals. So he is geared with his ideology in the same direction as the makers of Datebook 4&5– to protect wildlife. I do not see anything wrong with this. And I duly hope the majority of silent readers do as well. Boris Michael Luhovoy RE: iambic AgainI.M. Anonymous @ 5/25/2002 3:06:36 PM #
Blah blah blah ... so what? I still don't care what he thinks. If I cared what he thinks I would read your magazine or read his articles if he was an official PIC reviewer. This story is not only a stupid advertisement for Iambic, but it also seems a vehicle of publicity for your publication. Don't get me wrong, I admire and respect what you do, but I really couldn't care less what a 'bronze' winning film maker without an international reputation does with his Palm. Everyone knows AN is a great app - I use it every day in a business that is 10 times bigger in terms of scale and revenue than what a small film director is involved in. However, the problem is that this news story is just one big useless advertisement for your magazine and Iambic. It doesn't tell us anything new, it's not funny, it's not critical, it's just nothing. It's just some guy's opinion (if it was a review, it would be different). This item should be a comment in a thread, not an article on PIC. Yes, much of PIC stories are just recycled press releases which are in themselves advertisements, but at least they inform us about new developments and as such they are 'news'. There is absolutely no way anyone can justify this as a news story worthy of an entire article (praising AN in such a shameless way). There is more to this than we are being told and shame on PIC's editors for dropping their usually exceptionally high standards. RE: iambic AgainI.M. Anonymous @ 5/25/2002 3:16:15 PM #
You wrote: -This story is not only a stupid advertisement for Iambic, but it also seems a vehicle of publicity for your publication.- No it is not. And here is the prove: Our magazine is in German only - now how many of you are fluent enough in German language to follow a highly technical dedicated magazine? Now - I consider that point as clarified. You see - we do not win anything commercially - we are just proud having such an indeed international figure on board- by the way David worked in the Hollywood studios for a few years. And the three movies we show on our page are very funny indeed. We simply want to get the Palm idea around – even in cases we do not profit. Excuse my humble English - it’s not my mother-tounge – and I would not be fluent enough to follow a highly technical magazine in english. BvL. RE: iambic AgainI.M. Anonymous @ 5/25/2002 3:37:39 PM #
Again, so what??? None of your arguments are valid. What is at issue here is that he is blatantly endorsing Action Names and he is being quoted so significantly. Face facts: he may be a big Hollywood director in your eyes, because he's from your region, but the rest of the world (and most of Hollywood) has never heard of him. I wouldn't have a problem with this story if it was just a link to the films on your site in gMovie format or TealMovie etc. - that would be 'fun', interesting, cool and newsworthy. Even then, it should only be a two sentence item in a news-round up. However, the story has unecessary advertising for Action Names. The story should be deleted as it is just embarassing. Shut Up!!
First you bag on Iambic (ok, some of that was deserved, but it is long past time to drop the subject). Now you bag on Ed because you don't like an article (read some of the posts above) or consider it "news". I wasn't aware that a story needed to be sensational to be newsworthy. People like you all are why news programs only cover scandals these days. Sensationalism. Bah! Now you're even bagging on Palm Pro Mag. for using some guy's opinion you don't even know, for stating what he personally thinks of a piece of software. Using your logic, Palm TipSheet is merely a long propaganda rag! I don't think so. It seems nothing will please you, that you will always find something to complain about or criticize. Criticism is beneficial when done constructively, but I see no constructive suggestions here, only diatribe. What's the matter, didn't your mommy ever teach you? If you don't have positive input, don't give input (also quoted by mothers the world over as "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anyting at all"). Do the rest of us a favor and SHUT UP! Your constant whining is giving us headaches and making us ill. It is not very comfortable to have the gift of being amused at one's own absurdity. -Face facts: he may be a big Hollywood director in your eyes, because he's from your region, but the rest of the world (and most of Hollywood) has never heard of him.- Even if this would be true - I state i'ts not good manners to rate people qualitys on basis if they come from certain areas of the world or belong to certain groups. I do not want to elaborate further. And my friend - the world is a lot bigger as your comparable tiny home known map. Have a look at a good globe... BvL I sign off for good - there's all said RE: iambic AgainI.M. Anonymous @ 5/25/2002 7:28:10 PM #
I disapprove of this story with Kellog's Brand Disapproval. Kellog's Brand Disapproval has garnered me top accolades among those rating anonymous disapprovals. Yes, that's Kellog Brand Disapproval. RE: iambic AgainI.M. Anonymous @ 5/27/2002 4:31:18 AM #
"ok, some of that was deserved, but it is long past time to drop the subject" Uh... no. Iambic's stupid arrogant mistake just happened, and it is nowhere NEAR time to forgive and forget. RE: iambic AgainI.M. Anonymous @ 5/27/2002 9:08:49 AM #
How much retaliation will fit you - nailing on a cross, going nuke?
What personal loss have you encurred to be so full of hate?

So what, now if Bill Gates used Action Names then that might be a bit more newsworthy, oh yeah, I think Michael Jordan uses only brand name Kleenex when he sneezes, give me a break Iambic. (and before you flame me, yes "despirate" might be misssssspelled.) RE: Despirate Times, Despirate MeasuresI.M. Anonymous @ 5/25/2002 12:21:25 PM #
Maybe we mistyped the URL to PIC and went to a mis-spelt URL registered by Iambic ... who copied PIC's design ... or ... maybe Iambic hacked PIC and messed with the news feeds!
I.M. Anonymous @ 5/25/2002 12:14:55 PM #
This has to be the, sorry to say it, dumbest news article I've ever seen on PIC. It shouldn't even merit a two sentence news round up item let alone a whole article. The guy is a non-figure in the global sense (and PIC has a global audience) - perhaps famous within the indie film community in Austria. So what he uses Action Names? LMAO. I bet not even Austrian readers would be interested in reading that. It's not interesting. It's not significant. It's not in any way a 'cool to know' news item. It's not even funny. This is probably the easiest advertising spot Iambic will ever get. I bet they're laughing their asses off too. I know it's a slow news day, but this is just ridiculous. RE: Ed: is it April Fool's Day?I.M. Anonymous @ 5/25/2002 11:05:50 PM #
I agree: what a totally absurd and manipulative piece of propaganda put out by a company that is trying to exterminate Gorillas and gain supremacy in the PIM Palm market at all costs: vultures and predators at the same time. Iambic sucks! Just my $0.02. RE: Ed: is it April Fool's Day?I.M. Anonymous @ 5/27/2002 2:03:17 AM #
Completely my opinion, boring article. Actually I am from Austria, and I have never heard anything from this guy... I did not know that advertising is now possible on PIC. RE: Ed: is it April Fool's Day?I.M. Anonymous @ 5/27/2002 3:28:03 AM #
This means nothing – most of our fellow Austrian citizen don’t know the name of our "Gesundheitsminister" or president of Austria either. But you often see a film directed from someone not knowing who really made it. To question now the competence of Mr. Ruehm in filming industy (as a scapegoat to have a lame argument to hurt iambic) is as silly as cheap. RE: Ed: is it April Fool's Day?swinginjonny @ 5/28/2002 12:39:36 PM #
I agree that while I personally think the article is lame, all of these arguments are worse. Just because one person has never heard of someone does not mean they aren't influential in their field, bagging on the guy doesn't make anyone look more grown-up than the Iambic people they're flaming, and if the article doesn't interest you, do what I did--don't read it! I only read the article after my boss couldn't stop laughing at all the moronic posts after it. (Who knows, maybe Ed knows what kinds of responses he'll get and posts articles like that for the entertainment of those who read PIC! Way to go, Ed!)

Like how iambic's behaviour lowered their ethical merit in the eyes of many, many customers and potential customers, this article might do the same (albeit on a smaller scale) for PIC. The content and wording of this article smacks of marketeeze and brings into question whether PIC was paid for this gruesome piece of drivel. For me, this calls into question past and future PIC news clips. Since this one was not labelled as advertising, how are we to know which PIC blurbs are sponsored and which not? This is very sad.
