Palm faces another Patent lawsuit
As Palm prepares its much-anticipated initial public offering this week, it is facing a new lawsuit from a small Virginia technology company that alleges it has violated the company's patents. E-Pass Technologies, a developer of smart-card technology, said on Monday that it has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against 3Com. Click here for the full article.

While the patent itself seems a little ridiculous to me, I think the case can be thrown out on one point. The patent is specifically for a credit-card-sized device. It constantly refers to the device as a 'card'. While the Palm is pretty slim (especially the V), I don't think anyone would ever mistake one for a credit card.

Personally, I think this is a joke, a ploy to try to make a quick buck in the wake of Palm's IPO.
Seems to me they should be pursuing REX, not Palm!

product with lots of technical challenges, it'll be interesting to see if it works but I'm not sure what market exists. Looks alot like a smart card
"card card with a processor"....maybe the smart card patent holder should sue e-pass for an infringement ;)
