Best Buy pricing

hkklife @ 1/21/2010 12:41:55 PM # Q
I just received word (take it with a grain of salt, obviously) from the guy at the Best Buy Mobile desk that they will indeed have units in stock Monday morning. Their prices will be $149.99 and $99.99 out the door (instant rebate) w/ 2yr contract. No information was avaialable as far as a full retail pricing or 1yr contract pricing.

BB usually has HIGHER pricing for 1year contracts & full unsubsidized pricing than do VZW corporate stores. And in the past, such as with the Pre, they've either refused to sell the device without contract or priced it higher than usual.

If I am blown away by the Pre Plus, I would still consider getting one and dumping my Droid.

don't be afraid to ask for a better price. ask for the manager if necessary. be nice and respectful and tell a sob story and throw yourself on their mercy. it works. i've done it.

"While most retailers do not have formal policies regarding negotiating ticket prices, you would be shocked to know how many retailers want to negotiate," says Herb Cohen, author of the book You Can Negotiate Anything. "Retail prices are an artificial, arbitrary number. Ticket prices are not ordained by some almighty being. They are created by humans. Anything that results from a negotiation is negotiable."

In the deep distant past I had an associate who would attempt to bargain prices EVERYWHERE.

He was a discount fiend.

And quite successful at it.

Everywhere.

Palm's stealth marketing is interesting

I usually get an email from Palm, too, when something new happens.

Silence all around.

Maybe they can create buzz by getting people to talk about the lack of marketing!

At least their advertising isn't costing a lot!

I have been assisting with a Verizon Pre Plus upgade for the past several hours. We have now spoken with a BB Mobile tech, two Verizon techs, AND several Palm level 1 & level 2 tech support staffers. This is not a promising rollout so far, IMO. I am stunningly disappointed at both Palm and Verizon's lack of familiarity with this device, especially considering that this is NIGH IDENTICAL to the Sprint Pre!

What is so different that Pre setup steps don't work?

Just a followup - there are a couple new Verizon Pre ads onYoutube. IMHO, they have the feel of Palm-origination but I've been way wrong before.

Just got mine!

I just got my Pre and also a free Pixi for my wife. So far I LOVE it!!!! The synergy is just what I had hoped for and the browser/e-mail is beautiful. I guess let's see what happens after this honeymoon period, but so far so good.
Sadly, the sales person said these were her first Palm phones sold this week (it's Wednesday afternoon).
