Samsung Introduces 667MHz Mobile CPU
Samsung Electronics has announced a new mobile CPU with speeds of 667MHz. This mobile CPU is expected to enable diverse multimedia content in 3G mobile handheld devices such as smart phones and PDAs.
By introducing a structured custom design methodology at the integrated circuit design and evaluation process levels, Samsung was able to increase the speed of its mobile CPU. To further support seamless real time video images and high-density multimedia services, the mobile CPU carries up to 64Kilo Bytes of cache memory.
The new technology includes all the computing characteristics of current mobile CPUs with an embedded vector floating point co-processor enabling simultaneously computing of irregular decimal points along with fixed numbers. Design engineers implementing this technology will see enhanced graphics, 3D gaming and digital audio features.
Key Technology Features:
- Core: ARM1020E
- Core Clock: 667MHz @ 1.35V
- No. of Pipelines: 6
- Structured custom methodology for Multimedia
- Low Power : 0.8 mW MHz

RE: I wonder...
The processor might have some potential. I wish they would increase the cache size but that would increase also the die size. Incidentally does anybody know how many transistors this would have compared to the XScale and whether the CPU will use 90nm process.

PalmOS Ready?
Samsung's chips are what power the new low-end hps, and they allegedly offer great battery life.

So Stupid
Wonder how the boys in the minaturization of thermonuclear batteries are doing. Japan is due to go through the same crash the US did in the 70's with autos that got 2.2 miles to the gallon. I will laugh.

RE: So Stupid
My point is that we keep seeing such a careening lurch in power-hungry chips (lap-top strength chips) and no appreciable improvement in battery capacities. It is similar to being as silly as increasing the microprocessors in a watch when batteries in that realm couldn't sustain them either. A comment being heard these days is that people want to be moble, not tied to a recharger. If the TT3 gets 4 hours of battery what would something with a 667mhz chip get? It's a hand held, dummy.
Newsflash: Mike Cane bought a Tungsten E!!! Ha Ha!
I wonder how long it will take before something breaks on the Tungsten E? Will we have to endure countless hours of Mike complaining about it here at Palminfocenter? Given Mike's thousansds of hours of "research" playing with the PDA displays at Best Buy, he really has NO EXCUSE for making such a bad choice. A smart shopper would have spent the extra bucks to get a TH55.

Pity yes, bash, no. ;)
I'm no fan of the E. Hope it runs well and performs better than expected.
Undoubtably the money he saves now will go into some wunder-piece in the future. It's a known strategy to reign back a round and wait.
I'd have trouble with it if it was me though.
RE: Newsflash: Mike Cane bought a Tungsten E!!! Ha Ha!
Between the tin-cased Tungsten E and the horrid peeling-cased Zire 72, Palm has managed to embarass itself over the past few months. (Luckily, the Treo 650 looks like a home run.) The fact that Mike bought a Tungsten E suggests he doesn't really know quite as much about Palms as he'd like people to think. Oh well. No doubt millions here are waiting anxiously to hear his thoughts about the Tiny E after living (suffering?) with it for a few months.
If he asks nicely, I'll sell him a mint condition UX50 for only $375.
