Feel free. I've sworn off jumping on the Dataviz limitless update train. Palm has been in existence for about 11-12 years, and Dataviz is already up to that many "paid" upgrades!?! Iambic did this version inflation with Actionnames/Agendus, too - but didn't start charging until many later, and the fees were 1/3rd of these. Between the one in ROM, the patches and upgrades... it hogs WAY too much RAM, and the number of "major updates" requiring payment are just ridiculous for anyone except someone who's doing major editing on the Palm. For those 32 people, there are now UMPCs costing not much more than the Dataviz upgrade fees for a few years. Offer me a good program at a reasonable price, be generous with your patches and other adjustments, and you'll have my money and good word to other users. But call nearly every single adjustment and bugfix and feature addition a "major" upgrade and require another $30 from users who have already bought your $30.00-90.00 file reader... that just seems exploitative. RE: Wonderful!
Does this release have any local import functions? I have known a few that wanted to import Word and Excel docs from text files on an SD card. They ever get around to putting this feature in or are you still stuck to sync, edit on handheld and sync to export your file? Can you at least launch an email app created a blank email with the focused document attached? RE: Wonderful!grahamnind @ 11/18/2008 1:52:11 AM #
I just got version 11. I wouldn't have bothered but because I only bought v10 3 weeks ago they offered me a free upgrade. I'll try to answer your questions "Can you at least launch an email app created a blank email with the focused document attached?" RE: Wonderful!grahamnind @ 11/18/2008 2:14:12 AM #
OK. I understand the queion now I've thought about it!
"Does this release have any local import functions? I have known a few that wanted to import Word and Excel docs from text files on an SD card. WTF - The Treo 755p just shipped *last year* with DTG version 8 (the unpatched release), and was confirmed in the ROM update months ago THIS YEAR...
If version 8 is still considered current, how can DataViz have inflated up to version ELEVEN already?!? It reads PDFs and read/writes Office files... exactly what justifies THREE more "major" upgrades (vs. just releasing updates for whatever changed)?
>v11.00 brings the ability to view tracked changes in word processing files, new apply and view styles in word documents, view borders and wrapped text in spreadsheets, 10 new starter templates for Word and Excel files and an assortment of bug fixes and optimizations. you want $30 for this? Outrageous! dataviz sheet to go needs to support Excel WEB QUERY asap - http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/excel/HA010450851033.aspx RE: upgrade not worth $30
Hey - you want your "bug fixes and optimizations" to come for FREE?!!? Sheesh!
RE: upgrade not worth $30
meant "out of business." (v11 probably wouldn't fix my bad typing). Paying my annual PDA update tax to Palm since 1997. RE: upgrade not worth $30
I agree with the fact that you should pay the "programmer" for his/her work but this is a huge amount for little change. And I have a problem with the $2.99 subscription fee to let you download what you already own (yes, back-up is free). I have had this program since version 7 and if I paid for all the updates this software would have been about $180.00 (ouch). My last $.02 :) RE: upgrade not worth $30
I am still using DTG v9 with no problems... why pay for something you don't need. I will wait for version 15 when it is worth 30 bucks :)
