A reader from up north wrote in that he can no longer find the palmOne Tungsten T3 for sale at many popular retail outlets, even including the online Palm Store for Canada.
This is regrettable, especially for people who want features present on the T3, but deleted from the Tungsten T5, such as the slider, voice memo recording, normal RAM, etc.

I'm beginning to think those with the loose screws are doing strange things to their devices, like holding them by the slider and flipping their wrist to snap them open :0

LOL OMG thats what i do!
Of course this was to be expected. This is a natural progression of the product line just as we have seen since the original Palm Pilot. Out with the old, in with the new! New was always better than old - except this time. RE: Inevitable
Maybe PalmOne can contract Fisher Price for their T5 production. They're big into plastic as well. Except theirs has a track record of standing up to the rigors of harsh daily use. Plus PalmOne's target seems to be heading in a similar direction to Fisher Price's anyway.

Um...I guess palmOne wants to make this discontinuation quiet...
In November, palmOne officially told all retailers through e-mail (those who were resellerpro members) that the T|T3 was EOL, and they have depleted supplies of it. As I said in my article in November, "According to the latest newsletter sent to resellers, palmOne has very little stock left and it will be 'out of stock for good'."
oh no i better go out and buy a T3 before they become like the UX50 and TH55. I can't believe this. A far better unit and palmone is killing it. Well i know why but this is just far too much. PalmOne i will love to see the day to file for chapter 11. As for me hello tapwave
The world will end in 2006. Just as it was predicted in the bible along with the release of Microsoft Longhorn.... :p RE: PALMONE YOU ARE ONLY KILLING YOURSELVES!!!
And people said this as the III, IIIx, IIIxe, V, VII, M505, M515 etc were all discontinued.
This will be discontinued, the T5 will eventually as well as the many to come after it. RE: PALMONE YOU ARE ONLY KILLING YOURSELVES!!!
Not if P1 doesn't stick around past '05...
It is entirely probably that the T5 and/or the T|E2 (if the rumors are true) represent the final Tungsten models to come out of P1.

We should not be surprised by a move like this. The T3 has slowly been vanishing from the shelves here in the USA too, you just did not notice it. And here is why it is going out the door.
The T3 is the real "Flagship" for PalmOne. It has many wonderful features that came right out and surprised us all. Of course, it also lacked some things we thought it should have. But, nonetheless, it is most impressive. Each time a model like this comes out, it makes us appreciate the innovative design the makers put into it. We play, we think, we dream about the "what if's" for the next model, then we make it known in forums and to PalmOne. They listen and learn too, so we get what we want. Maybe not when we want it, but in time, it comes. Yes, the T5 wasn't everything we hoped it would be, but it too is a test vehicle for future devices. Who would have thought of making your PDA work as a storage device for additional data you want to drag around and send to this or that computer. How about cables for syncing instead of cradles. This sure makes it easier to have a portable device. And how about that mystery plastic that looks and acts like metal. OK, that one was a bit of a klunker on the Zire, but you get the idea. Now, take the T3 and T5, marry them with some extra goodies like WiFi & BT, plus upgrades that haven't crossed our minds yet and VOILA, the next device. Hey, OLED is cool. And how about the thing Hawkins is working on. He may be closer than he or we think. I imagine my PDA interacting with me one day in a way similar to that of the HAL9000. Well, maybe not. I definitely would hate to find myself with no life support. Anyway. Why is the T3 vanishing. For the same reason the cowboy rides off into the sunset. There is always another day and another device on the horizon. Via con dios! RE: Why be surprised.
Too true.
A sales person at Staples did confirm to me that the T3 is no longer obtainable once supplies run out at local stores. Usually, I can order even some discontinued stuff through the University of Toronto Computer Shop, but they can't get this for me anymore (they had told me that they could as recently as a month ago). I agree that the T5, although much maligned for what it left out, is not a bad little Palm device in its own right. I wouldn't pay the $600 CDN for it, but luckily I can get it for about $450 CDN though the U of T Computer Shop (gotta love academic pricing). Before I take the plunge, I'm waiting to see what P1 will come out with next.
The T3 has been discontinued by all of the stores here in Australia too.
I managed to pick one up on Ebay luckily enough - so thankfully I didn't have to drop down to a T5 ;-) palmOne don't care about 'power' palm users anymore...
RE: Never let the truth to get in the way of a good b!tchfest/
You're fools if you think the T3 is not on its last legs of availability everywhere. Once final inventory has been sold out, that'll be it. Just because it's still available online doesn't mean production has not been stopped. No more new T3 are being produced. Go buy a T5 and like it. RE: Never let the truth to get in the way of a good b!tchfest/
Gotta agree with you on this one, Gekko. As much as I love the physical design of the T3, I have a feeling that I'm going to wind up with a T5.
Too bad P1 won't offer OS upgrades on devices; I'd love to buy a T3 and upgrade the OS to Garnet (I have admitted defeat that Cobalt is forthcoming anytime soon). RE: Never let the truth to get in the way of a good b!tchfest/
All that we can do is hope that something decent comes out this spring or fall (more likely the fall). If so, then I am sure there are enough T3s left in the channel, refurb, open box, used and otherwise to keep everyone those who grit it out and hunt around online for one between now and then. After the final stocks of T3 are exhausted and nothing reasonable comes from P1...well folks, THEN we'll have reason to panic!
I just picked up a T3 on boxing day, did a price match at futureshop for $397.00, and just the other day a guaranteed lowest price (within 30days) at futureshop for $347.00 using a print out from staples clearance pricing. (link below)
http://www.staples.ca/ENG/Catalog/cat_sku.asp?CatIds=88%2C318,447&webid=519503&affixedcode=WW They are definitely discontinued... so grab them while you can print that page out from the above link and check out futureshop or even staples (although I don't think they have any more stock since I missed out on their clearance pricing for boxing day... they had an additional 20% off.. so I missed out on getting one for $317.60...) Good Luck.. T3 in the UK
I know its becoming increasingly difficult to find on the high street in the UK but the same can also be said of the T5 and Zire 72. I think the majority of high street retailers are realising that there's no way the can compete with online retailers such as Expansys (from who the T3 is still readily available) in terms of price. If you're in the UK and looking for a T3, eBay is where I got mine from and there is a company called Lunzertech (or something like that) that specialises in refurbished Palms including the T3.
Quoting:
>>>The AmigaOS is small (tiny, even!) fast, and Internet-ready, yet already has a large library of supported applications, exactly what is needed for the next generation of cell phones and other handheld devices. I have been playing around with Compact Flash to IDE adapters, and have installed the OS (as you can see from the screenshots, the OS plus all the applications and data I was testing took up only 377 megabytes) onto a 512MB compact flash card for a prototype wireless tablet I am developing. >>>However, as cell phones, PDAs and living room set-top media boxes become more prevalent in the future, there is a chance that the A1 and OS4 could find a profitable niche. I have used PDAs that have similar CPU and RAM capacities as my AmigaOne and they do not provide the same speed and functionality that is already available in OS4. OS4 feels like a full desktop, yet has the resource requirements of a handheld. There is a chance, albeit a small one, that the Amiga might play a small role in this arena. Hey Nagel! You can acquire this too and have a further excuse for having us wait and wait and wait and wait! Full review: RE: Will PalmSource now buy Amiga?
Fascinating idea Mike - there were some really great games out on the Amiga...On a similar note does anyone of any Amstrad CPC or Commadore 64 emulators for Palm?
RE: Will PalmSource now buy Amiga?
C64 =
http://frodopalm.sourceforge.net/ Feh! Looks like, again!, PPC might have the better one: http://www.clickgamer.com/moreinfo.htm?pid=4 Thanks, palmOne & PalmSource! Grrr...
Everybody knows the current T5 was just a souped up E that got named T5 instead of E2.
Palm One must have an T series device still in design. I hope they release it. The T series is a higher quality than the E series. It would be a shame if they kill off their high end devices.
Hi,
we guys in germany and austria already lost our T3 weeks ago... So be happy that you had a longer ride! BTW, if a strong used device market develops for the T3, we might just see them beeing produced once again. We just saw that with Sonys EB40 for the UX series... Look at P1's Reply - this is CLASSIC! ----- The same eight Contacts are displayed every time you tap Find More. You can't continue searching in other applications once the eight Contacts are displayed. What should I do? The "Find" function is a subsystem of the Palm OS. It is a rudimentary feature of your handheld that performs basic searches. There are third-party search utilities on the market that offer robust features and flexible searching options beyond the basic "Find" function included with the Tungsten T5 handheld (and which do not encounter the issue with displaying only eight Contacts). Search the palmOne Software Connection for third-party handheld search utilities, such as IntelligentFind. RE: T5 Find Bug
WHAT reply?! They are basically saying "Shove it, pal, we gotcha money."
PDAs are dying -- with lots of help from palmOne! RE: T5 Find Bug
Gekko -
Write a short couple of paragraph's about the T5 find bug. State how you encounter it and why it is such an issue. Email it to me and I'll spice it up. Then I will publish an article on it and make sure the right ppl read it. RE: T5 Find Bug
Oh my God. Gekko credited... the Return of Christ must be at hand. Wasn't this in the Book of Revelation? One of the Plagues, maybe?
RE: T5 Find Bug
I do not seek nor do I desire any credit. I'm doing God's work - and that's all the credit I need. RE: T5 Find Bug
p.s. Remember when I told everyone about the T5 find bug way back at introduction? And what did I get? A spit in the eye by an incredulous MikeCon and other Palm Apologists. How quickly we forget. RE: T5 Find Bug
Was that last comment Satan's work? Turn the other cheek. (Then grow some more so I can slap them too!)
The T3 now seems to be hard to find in U.S. retail outlets, i.e. ComputerCity, etc., and online at Amazon, Buy.com, etc. This could indicate that they have stopped manufacturing the T3 and are selling down their remaining inventory, although it is still available from PalmOne. If so, what is their replacement strategy -- do they expect the T5 to fill that need, or will they have another new product, other than the Treo 650, to replace it? RE: PalmOne Tungsten T3 Discontinued?
The T3 wan't good when it was released...this model was rushed to market with too many bugs,to little a battery, no wifi, and poor screens.
I had to return my T3's to Palm 3 times due to screen scratching. I say good bye T3...The T5 is no prize either. Its Treo or nothing...Except I gotta buy JOT to add Graffiti.

I think it is still possible that palmOne might face a lawsuit regarding about "loose parts" on the Tungsten T3. Though palmOne has ordered the cessation of Tungsten T3 production, they might not be able to escape any lawsuits regarding about loose parts, though.
