Verizon Palm Centro on the Roadmap?

Rumor: It's looking more likely that we could see a Verizon Centro soon. Engadget Mobile is citing insider information on a Verizon Centro release date and the folks at TreoCentral have also recently dug up some scraps of supporting evidence as well.

Engadget Mobile cites an unnamed source that claims the Centro will debut on Verizon sometime in the end of May or beginning of June.

TreoCentral is reporting on a scanned Verizon rebate form that lists the Palm Centro. The rebate form is valid through 6/15/08 and lists an assigned upc code and $70 rebate value on the Centro.

Unlikely. Considering how long the Verizon 755p was in coming, I think we can expect a barebones, more business-oriented phone than the Sprint version. I'd think Sprint more likely to add PTT (via a ROM update) than Verizon. I wouldn't count on seeing Google Mobile Maps location info on the Verizon version either, as they like to push their own branded offerings.

Going by Verizon's past history with Palm OS smartphones, VersaMail likely won't be in ROM and it'll probably have Verizon Wireless Sync standard in ROM instead. Maybe we'll see a new color or, as past rumors suggested, the same blue version recently released for the Mexican market.

Either way, I'm VERY, VERY surprised to see the Centro on Verizon. I had almost figured the 755p was certainly the final POS effort for VZW. If the Centro does make it, then the chances of seeing the 800w in the reasonably near future look good as well.

Great timing for me, my Verizon contract is up for renewal this month. I also tried to input the Centro rebate # on VZN site and it does show up!

I had the same idea, and the upc listed does show up, and returns the following:

Product: Palm Centro Smartphone

Promotion: Verizon Wireless Mail-In Rebate Offer with Purchases Made Between March 30, 2008 through June 15, 2008
Valid Purchase Dates: 03-30-2008 through 06-15-2008

What color do you want VZW to be? That blue they released in Mexico is damn sharp looking! The wife and I would need two though so they need to offer us two colors so we can tell them apart :)

Even if VZ has it in one color only, like 755p, you could go to seidio.com to get diff color skins, which would protect the phones as well....

I tried inputting the vzn rebate # today and couldn't find anything. That seems strange if the dates are from March 30th to Jun 15th. Anyone know anything more?
