TX Tweak Remaps Palm TX Buttons

Palm TX TweakVorpalware has released a new utility for Palm TX users. TX tweak is a small application that improves navigational behavior and fixes some minor annoyances on the TX. It will allow you to remap the home hardware button to launch any application in RAM. The utility also lets you set the find icon space on the status bar to launch the applications screens (like it should in the first place), bring up the find dialogue or launch favorites.

TX Tweak costs $6.95 to register and there is a free trial download.

Does anyone know offhand what is the best of the "TX Tweak" type programs out there? That is, which of the "Home back where it belongs" apps is the best freebie and then what is the best/most stable one overall?

I'd personally like to see Palm release a ROM update that fixes some of the VersaMail and Blazer bugs, restores BT connectivity for CDMA phone, makes a prefs menu option for the "old" style find/home icon arrangement and (if possible) addresses some of the heap memory usage flaws. He11, I'd PAY Palm for an update that did all of the above!

Didn't a developer--maybe NormSoft or MobiTV--recently go on record as saying that Palm was working on a TX ROM update to address the heap issue?

If you just want the home icon back where it belongs, sharkTXfix is great for that:

Thanks for the suggestion but Ludus has pulled it from their site as of a few months ago. No ETA on its return. That's why I was asking (sorry for not making it specifically clear) in my previous post if anyone had any additional suggestions and/or if any new TX tweak type programs had been released that I hadn't noticed.

I installed SharkTXFix back in Nov/Dec and had some stability issues when doing "Find" searches with the upstroke. I think it was 1.1 or 1.2 and I don't think the app was ever publicly updated past that.

While it is not freeware, MySkin (http://www.palmgear.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=software.showsoftware&PartnerREF=&siteid=1&prodID=72007), by Alexander Pruss is one of the best peices of software I have seen for improving your Dynamic Input Area (DIA). This software provides the option to replace the find button with the home button. You don't lose your find functionality either. Holding the menu button brings up the "find" feature.

Also, in regards to mapping the hardware "home" button, I recommend using ButtonsEx (http://freewarepalm.com/utilities/buttonsex.shtml). It is free and integrates well into the Palm preferences menu.

I have already replaced the find icon back to home. However, the 5-way doesn't work with so many of my programs; Snappermail, AnotherBall and Airball. Will this fixes these huge annoiances with my TX

Look at the very bottom of the home page.

When you tap-hold on home you get a list of recent apps. This program puts a find option at the bottom of that list.

And unlike sharkTXfix this ones free. It has worked great for me for months.

No bugs/crashes/hiccups?

I'll try this one tonight and report back.

Mobile Stream has two version of their "TX Home Button" fix. I use the one that replaces the find icon with a home icon (HomeWithFind.prc). The popup menu also includes recently used apps.

From their documentation:
There are two mutually exclusive versions of the home button application:
a) HomeWithFind.prc just replaces the Find button. Find command is
accessible in the menu that pops up on a long stylus press.
b) HomeNoGoLCD.prc removes the GoLCD (Graffiti on the screen)
button, shifts other buttons and shows the Home icon on the left
side of the status bar as usual.

Combining that with ButtonsEX made for a complete solution. Both work flawlessly with ZLauncher. And both are free.

It might not be the "mythical color HandEra", but I'm liking my TX anyway.

Thanks for the tip. I installed the "HomeWithFind" PRC tonight and it's working great. Not a big deal having to pull up find from the popup menu or when the Graffiti input area is maximized.
I don't use Zlauncher but it's nice to know they will all play well together should I go that route down the road.

Ideally, I'd like to see Palm do the following in a comprehensive TX ROM update or a TX2/LD2:

- Home on bottom left, as on the older models.

- Find next to home.

- Clock next to find. Tapping it brings up a volume slider under the brightness slider

- ! in the middle

- A single "wireless" inon bringing up a menu with both BT & Wi-Fi controls.

-Onscreen Graffiti 1

-Screen rotate IF there's not a dedicated hard button for this (preferred) ala the LifeDrive

-Up arrow in right corner as always

It's 'Ronamatic'

bcombee @ 3/7/2006 10:25:17 AM # Q
The text in the dialog for this app doesn't quite get the name right. It's not "romantic", but "Ron-a-matic". I asked about this back in mid-2000 on palm-dev-forum and got this response from Jesse Donaldson, one of Palm engineers:

This is a fun little piece of PalmOS trivia...
You guessed right! Its named after Ron Marianetti. He's the engineer that created it, and one of the original PalmOS architects. Its now known as "the ron-a-matic stroke", and I'm really not sure what else you would call something like that...

Hi,
what for heavens sake is the ron-a-matic stroke? Is it the

Hey Tam, it's the full stylus swipe shortcut from the bottom to the top of the screen.
