Posted By: Ryan on Monday, May 08, 2006 11:49:35 AM

Epocrates, provider of mobile and online clinical applications for healthcare professionals, has announced the appointment of David Nagel to its board of directors. Nagel will serve as Epocrates' independent lead director and chair the board's compensation committee.

Nagel is well recognized for his most recent role as president and chief executive officer of PalmSource, Inc., developer of operating system software platforms for handheld devices and smartphones. Nagel is currently president of Ascona Group.

"David Nagel is an exceptional addition to our board of directors. His leadership and experience in mobile and wireless technology will be valuable in guiding our management team," said Kirk Loevner, chairman and chief executive officer of Epocrates.

Nagel's extensive technology experience also includes senior management roles at several leading companies, including chief technology officer at AT&T and president of AT&T Labs. Nagel served as senior vice president at Apple Computer where he managed the advanced technology group and led the worldwide research and development group. Nagel also worked at NASA's Ames Research Center as head of human factors research.

"The enthusiasm of Epocrates' customer base is contagious. At PalmSource, I saw the 'Epocrates phenomenon' firsthand -- clinicians purchasing mobile devices primarily to use Epocrates' products. I am honored to be affiliated with a company that develops such valuable and reliable clinical solutions for healthcare professionals," said Nagel.

Nagel currently serves on the board of directors of Leapfrog, Inc. (LFS), Tessera, Inc. (TSRA), ArcSoft and IDT Spectrum. Nagel is also a member of the Sciences Board of Visitors at UCLA where he earned a BS and MS in engineering and a PhD in perception and mathematical psychology.

You say that like it was uncalled for...?

Dave's a nice bloke - I've met and worked for him before, but under his leadership PS screwed up... big time.

What's Carl Yankowski up to nowadays? I see that he jumped on Majesco as CEO in 2004 and rammed it into the ground before jumping ship a year later. Who's he busy ruining now?

Maybe he's in talks with Diebold to figure out how to improve the voting machine rigging to steal the 2006 election, too? The security on the Palm devices are better than those things...
