Cover Up the Palm OS Border

BlackBorder is a new freeware app that aims to eliminate the white border around some of the latest Palm models. Ever since the Palm OS went color, all Palm OS handhelds and smartphones have a white 2 pixel "border" surrounding the perimeter of the display that is not used by any program. Photo applications and video players still exhibit this border, even when operating in full screen mode. Canuck Software has released this new utility that will turn this border to black on the LifeDrive, Palm TX, Zire 72, and Treo 650.

Tried this on 650 & 700P - Kinoma Player???

ScottG @ 8/2/2006 4:04:30 PM # Q
Well I put this right on, because I can't stand that white border with the Kinoma 3 Player border. Sorry to say this didn't do anything at all on the Treo 650 and 700P with Kinoma3 Player. In fact I still see it in all the following apps on the 650 and 700P - SplashPhoto, SplashBlog, Palm's Picture Viewer, Camcorder, VersaMail, SnapperMail. I see no difference at all with this, I'd Like to though... Anyone else have any luck with this on the 650 or 700P? I even did a reset thinking this would enable something - Nope!

Try The Core Pocket Media Player- It has a setting to get rid of the white border for it's full screen movie mode- works great on my T|X

Ummm, I think Dmitry was about 9 years old 10 years ago? I highly doubt screen borders were an issue back then...10 years ago people were trying to adapt to Graffiti 1 and worry if a Pilot with a backlight would ever be released!

umm..it was exaggeration for effect. In fact he was 5 or 6 years old ten years ago. What I mean is that this isnt anything particularly new

Technical reason for the white border?

freakout @ 8/3/2006 5:06:47 AM # Q
Out of curiosity, does anyone here know why there's a white border? Is it a technical issue?

Treo 270 ---> Treo 650
...also needs some work

Just installed it. Froze the Treo. Soft-resetted. Treo showed nothing but a blank screen. Had to restore from backup.

Of course, it's not really meant to be a Treo app so I'm not that surprised.

"Ta da!

No border!"

Naw, assuming the blank screen was white, it just expanded to take up the whole thing. :D

Yes but No on Zire72

plaid @ 8/3/2006 1:23:56 PM # Q
I installed on my Zire72 and it works great -- only I ran into a problem later. With blackborder enabled, my palm will not wake up to sound an alarm, infact if it is off when an alarm is supposed to go, then I cannot even turn it on but have to reset. I tried turning on the exclusion for my alarm apps (tried with both Agendus 11.1 and the built-in world clock), but excluding didn't help, I had to globally disable the blackborder. I sent a report to canuck software, hopefully they can get this fixed, I liked the black borders.

Something similarily related to this app.....

ackmondual @ 8/14/2006 4:29:42 PM # Q
is Mirror which is also freeware. Meant for older Palm Inc devices like IIRC.... the m-series where turning off the older TFT (IIRC again) resulted in a green color rather than a black color that PDA LCD screens today now have. However, I've never noticed the white borders throughout apps. This 'power of suggestion' might drive me crazy, as now I'll likely BE looking for these odd borders :|
