$9 'upgrade' from version '3'....

Nice that they keep working to improve this software, but to expect us to pay nearly another FIFTY percent to get the latest fixes (and "improvements") is absolutely ridiculous.

Version 2 was terrible, version 3 became somewhat useable and I bought it a few months ago - now they want another $9 on a $20 program to get the fixes that should have just been added to version 3.

This developer is going to run out of numbers to use as "versions" if they keep the paid "upgrades" rolling out every few months like this. It just smacks of opportunism, and there are other programs out there that do the same thing now (mvoice, Personal Audio Recorder PRO, etc.) that are both less expensive than Call Rec 3 plus the 4 "upgrade."

I'm not going to encourage this sort of stuff from developers - I'll put the $9 bucks toward a license for another program that has fair updates without trying to "churn" me.

Well, let me save you some time and say that even version 3.1 of CallRec beats the pants off of mVoice. MVoice is still at version 4.0. I downloaded the trial of CallRec 4.0 and was quite impressed with it. If any call record app is worth purchasing it's 4.0 of CallRec. I think $9 is a bit steep considering 3.1 was just released in what, July or August or so? At least it's a solid program. It's not as flashy as Mvoice or some of the other alternatives but it's got good sound quality and doesn't bring the 700p to its knees while recording (no easy feat in itself).

I may try to do a CallRec 3.1 vs. 4.0 followup review in the near future if time permits.

Also, it's pretty hard to find on many developers' websites what their actual upgrade policy is. No one beats Astraware & Splashdata when it comes to giving free updates for the lifetime of a product!

Ummmm... hkklife is the one who wrote that review. I believe he's suggesting that he'll update the review to let people know more about what's new in CallRec. (i.e. CallRec 3.1 Vs. CallRec 4.0)

mVoice 5 has been out for a while now:

If my iRiver iFP 799 (the best MP3 player EVER) can record direct to MP3 format, why the He11 can't a $600 Treo do the same???

Oh dear. It's an endless loop. I'm being linked back to my old content when I make a statment re: a possible future review.

CallRec barely won the previous shootout (CallRec3.1 vs. MVoice 5.0). Since MVoice has not been updated in several months, it's likely that CallRec 4.0 will only extend its lead unless something goes horribly awry like the TCMP to CorePlayer transition.

The upgrade price might sting a bit for some but still, at least CallRec's headed in the right direction. A solid, uncluttered UI and decent audio quality (compressed or uncompressed) that isn't too terribly taxing on the Treo hardware & OS.
